Look.. Mike McCarthy and probably Ted know this was a mistake.. but something has changed in Teddy over the last year or two.. at first he was very quick to fix his mistakes... today.. they seem to linger for a while..

Hm.... I don't think that's a fair statement 93z.

It was only last year that Ted cut Manuel. It took him a year to move on from his mistake, simply because (IMO) it wasn't realistic to do so before the season was over.

In all fairness, Ted right now must know he made a mistake. At the same time, why cut a player just for the sake of cutting. As bad as Frost is in punting, he's just as good as in holding. I'd rather play it safe, hope Frost punts more like he did vs the Bears than he has inside in Domes.

The interesting thing is that the Packers still have a roster spot to work with after Barnett gets put on the IR. Dare I say it, Ted sign another Punter (DeBauche) to punt, and keep Frost as holder?

I liked Ryan as a punter because, though his leg was so so, he had the balls of a football player. He played tough. He ran with the ball well and tried to make plays. Most of all, he came through on a consistent basis

"obi1" wrote:

Obi1, I can understand letting Ryan go. While I was amazed at the distance of his kicks, never once was I amazed at his placement, or ability to drive the ball out of bounds 40 yards, preventing a punt return.

If Frost brought that, we'd have been a much better team. Watching the Titans face the Packers, I saw Hentrich punt the ball 40 yards and go out of bounds, preventing Blackmon from returning. I got pissed, so I can only imagine how frustrating it was for the coaches and Blackmon, who is a legitimate threat to return Punts for TDs.

On the basis the move was made (greater directional punting) I can't argue much. The results however show signing Frost for Ryan was a huge mistake.

Yeah, but Ted sure as hell would get heat for that one. And he'd have to admit mid-season he made a hell of a screw up. It'd take balls, but would probably be the right thing to do for this team.

My only problem with that move is I'd rather get a pass rushing D-linemen to fill Barnett's spot, simply because we sorely lack quality depth in that area.

How is that not a fair statement?

A few games in, it was apparent that Frost wasn't the consistent punter they hoped they were getting.. so why not start looking then, we had a bye week in which a new punter would have had more time to team with Crosby than Frost had before game one.

In the beginning.. if a player was brought in and didn't fill the need he was looking for, they were let go. See Cory Rodgers as an example.. he was drafted to help in the return game.. a 4th was spent on him and Ted cut him loose very early on in camp when he seemed to fail.

Manuel provided something we didn't have at a key spot on the defense.. experience until we could develop safeties to play there.. granted he suck but there was also a little more coin involved there are well.

Although.. I give him credit for cutting Wynn this season.. waking him up and then getting him back with a more productive attitude.

I think you nailed the first part.. it has been a different year for Ted.. but I think this speaks more of scared to admit the mistake and fix it than anything else.. which was my point in the first point.

On the roster spot.. I can't believe a move hasn't been made yet.. Barnett isn't coming back yet nothing.. weird.

there aren't exactly a lot of top tier players, even role players, left unsigned at this point in the season.

Here is a list of players that could help along the Dline..

Ed Johnson.. played well with the Colts.. character risk.

Jimmy Kennedy.. high pick.. not overly productive but not horrible either.

Anthony Maddox.. 2 sacks each of the past 2 years at DT..

Micheal Myers.. older but 15.5 career sacks from the DT.

Greg Spires.. Veteran DE.. solid overall game

Larry Tripplett.. can slide up and down the line.. done it his whole career.

Marcus Tubbs.. Injuried.. unsure if he is ready to go.. but at least bring him in for a look.. could be a long term help if he can give you anything this season.. was very solid for the seachickens.
