Odom #98 (8 snaps v. Bengals) This kid looks good! The Falcons effed up ‘cause they don’t got 53 players better than this kid. These 8 plays, show he’s fast enough to get around edge; strong enough to hold contain; explosive enough to disrupt a play and that he can learn from his mistakes.

1Q 11:11- Run [for 3 yards] came his way; did a nice job maintaining outside leverage on RT and RB went thru right B gap and Odom was quick enough to shed the tackle and could have gotten an asst, but they didn’t give it to him.

1Q 10:29-Same play and again Odom held his outside leverage on RT. The RB cold not bounce it outside and the inside pursuit nailed him for -1.

2Q 13:15-Locks up w/ TE ball goes up the middle. Odom cold not affect play

2Q 12:35- Get 1st rush opportunity. I think RT may have known it was a quick pass, so he may have set up to prevent any inside move. Odom went around RT who barely got 2 hands on him and could not push him hard enough to disrupt Odom’s path the QB. Had QB not thrown the ball in about 1 second to R, Odom would have gotten a sack.

2Q 6:00-This was a very good and very bad play. Burnett had outside contain, so Odom’s job was to spill inside. The run goes up the middle and Odom pushes the TE 3 yards inside. This shows great power. But, he did a rookie thing and failed to use proper [wrong arm] technique. When spilling Odom needed to attack the inside shoulder of the TE, he attacked the outside shoulder. As the back approached the LOS instead of Odom squashing him, the TE was able to spin Odom behind the RB and he squirted outside for 10 yards.

2Q 5:20-This was another savy play by Odom, The OLine run blocked slanting left, and Dalton rolled right and Odom was unblocked. But, Odom only took a half step to Bengals left and pursued Dalton who got rid of ball ‘cause Green was wide open.

2Q 4:52-Run goes up middle; Odom cannot affect play

2Q 4:18-Odom again spills it; Evans has contain, this time Odom hits the TE’s inside shoulder and stacks it up. Jones scrapes over for TFL. And Odom was quick enough to disengage from TE to help with the tackle and got an asst. on Jones’ TFL. This was a real nice play for the youngster. I wonder if a player said something or he made technique correction on his own. [This is probably on a highlight somewhere if ya’ll want to watch it.

I read some Falcon board posts about the guy when we signed him and they seemed generally pretty heartbroken over his cut. The Falcons have alot of promising defensive talent + a couple of vets who are more ready to contribute towards another Super Bowl run, it was just a numbers game.

Hopefully their abundance is our fortune.
