Probe ends in elder Driver's case
Houston police said Tuesday there is no evidence to back claims that three police officers brutally assaulted the father of Green Bay Packers wide receiver Donald Driver during a traffic stop last month.

Unbelievable

Evidence that it was the police that assaulted him, not that he wasn't assaulted.

The family also showed the notes written by Driver that alleged that he knew at least one of the officers and that they took him behind a gas station where they beat him and forced an object down his throat.

So the handwritten notes are not evidence?
Good to know in case I must confess to something.

Or, of course, the proper authorities reviewed the case and came to the conclusion that the cops did not commit a crime. Maybe that's just crazy talk though.

I used to live in Houston. One of the most unprofessional police departments I've seen. One of the many reasons I'm glad I'm no longer there.

My condolences go out to Mr. Driver and his family.
My man Donald Driver

If it were me, I'd want an independent group looking at the case, rather than the same police department occused of the crimes.

The AP reported on the police report:

**************

Shortly after being taken to jail, Marvin Driver was hospitalized and listed in critical condition. His family had said he was taken to a gas station by police, beaten by at least two officers and had something forced down his throat.

Houston police said its investigation, which included medical records and eyewitness accounts, didn't substantiate the allegations of brutality.

"Medical information obtained by investigators does not support or indicate any injuries to Mr. Driver consistent with a recent assault," the statement read.

Eyewitnesses didn't see the elder Driver being beaten, police said.

According to police, two independent witnesses said "no signs of assault or altercation took place involving Mr. Driver and the officers" at the spot where Driver was taken after his arrest. Police said witness statements also indicate that Officer Marin, whom Driver alleges repeatedly assaulted him, remained in his patrol vehicle.

The officers stated Driver was unresponsive upon arrival at the jail and was taken to a hospital, police said.

*********
They were arresting the guy on outstanding traffic warrants, not some just-committed crime, why didn't they head straight to jail? What were they doing taking him to a gas station in the first place? There is something extremely fishy with the actions of the police officers here.
