Good logic, but using logic doesn't work with him doesn't work...

If we would of taken Foster he would of bitched about not attempting to improve CB enough...
If they take the CB he bitched about not getting another player that's doing well...

It doesn't matter what they do, there is a way to complain about it.

For the record, I absolutely would complain about the CB position. 100% correct. We took Urkel King in a trade out of Round 1 as the fix. Not pleased with his selection would be putting it mildly.

Reuben Foster is being compared, now, to Patrick Willis and Luke Kuechly. Who is King being compared to? Bhawoh Jue or Michael Hawthorne? There is a legit buzz about Foster. The exact type of player I lamented we don't seem to ever draft in Green Bay. Clay and BJ were the last buzz creating 1st year rookies and they helped lead us to a ring. Here we are reaching and drafting for NEED because we can't hit on a 1st or 2nd round CB and we let another 2nd rounder go for cheap to SD. All those mistakes lost us Reuben in favor of another attempt to fix CB and it ain't looking too good right now as to King being any kind of solution.

Have any of you guys done any local level scouting? I feel like some of you would be quite good at it.

Old (33). Costly(6.1 mil). Declining performance (Z's favorite, PFF, has him taking a dive the last few years) and has an open sexual assault case. Could conceivably be suspended for significant amount of time at some point.

I live in the Bay Area. Brooks wasn't replaced by Reuben Foster, nor was he released because of the criminal charges.

At 33, Brooks can still get the job done, but the 49ers switched defensive philosophies. Brooks' assignment in Fangio's old 3-4 defense was to seal the edge. It just so happened that he was skilled enough to be good for 7 sacks every year. SF used a high draft on Eli Harold a couple years ago, and he's finally being put into a role where he can do some damage and the drop off between him and Brooks was minimal. The Niners have had better linebackers than us for years, so I'm sure it had nothing to do with Brooks' overall talent.

Shanahan released him now saying it'll give him an opportunity to play somewhere else right away, and he is with us.

Anyways, I came to post this video, which I found this interesting... could potentially be another reason the 49ers might of wanted to give Brooks the "opportunity to play somewhere else", as he sounds like he might of been unhappy in a back-up role... (at least in mid Nov 2014).

The best thing about his signing is he is reportedly tough. Our D has been so soft for so long but with Brice back there and Josh Jones as erratic as he is, we're adding some intimidators. Maybe, this will push the metrosexual Matthews to a new level along with soft Nick.
