The Packers swapped an interior offensive lineman for a bookend tackle. In the midst of organized team activities, the Green Bay Packers have made a swap along the offensive line. On Tuesday, the team announced the signing of offensive tackle Robert Leff and the corresponding release of center Jacob Flores .
A 6-foot-5, 302-pound rookie O-lineman, Leff appeared in 53 games with 15 starts (all at right tackle) during his time at Auburn. He earned second-team All-SEC recognition from the Associated Press. Leff went unselected during this past April's NFL draft , eventually signing with the Atlanta Falcons on May 1. The Falcons waived him earlier this month.
Leff joins an offensive-line group that features established starters at both tackle spots but opportunities behind them. 2016 second-round pick Jason Spriggs expects to serve as the primary backup at both left and right tackle, but Leff could compete with second-year man Kyle Murphy , undrafted rookie Geoff Gray, and others for roster and practice-squad spots behind him.
As for the departing Flores, the move marks the apparent end of his year-long run in Green Bay. The interior offensive lineman originally signed with the team shortly after the 2016 NFL Draft and battled for a roster spot during the subsequent training camp and the preseason. He received a settlement from the Packers in September arising out of an undisclosed injury but rejoined the club on the practice squad in October.
