Most of us enjoy watching a good movie. IMO, it does not matter if the film was made in the 1930"s or was just released, a good movie tells griping story , was well written, and well portrayed.

My favorite films include :

Spartacus (with Kirk Douglas and Sir Lawrence Olivier)
Casablanca
The Magnificent Seven
Star Trek ll - The Wrath of Kahn
Bite the Bullet
No Time for Sergeants
The original Frankenstein, Wolfman, and Dracula movies
Any, John Wayne, Western
Moby Dick ( with Gregory Peck )
Apollo 13 ( with Tom Hanks )
The Godfather (parts l and ll )

What movies make your list ?

Citizen Kane is #1 on many list of the best all time movies. While I found it to be a fine film, it would not not cause me to view it over some other films. Orson Wells did turn a fine performance, but IMO his best performance ever was the Preacher in Moby Dick where he delivers his sermon in just one powerful take.

Over the years many Actors/Actresses have delivered performances that go on to become a part of our lives. Marlon Brando's character saying "I'll make him an offer he can't refuse." still enters many minds today as it continues to grip us. Another is the little girl in the movie Poltergeist and her line,"they'er here" or Arnold Schwarzenegger' famous line,"I'll be back". Clark Gables shocking line (for that time) where he tell's Vivian Leigh's character, "I don't give a damn.".

I have seen Citizen Kane and Moby Dick. Don't really care for either. Yes they are good films but they don't do anything for me.

The Poltergeist line is actually "They're here."
I think Brando's greatest line is "Hey Stella"!!

wpr , your opinions and those of others are what make this forum interesting . Yes I make errors too , and corrections have been made, thanks .

Now , many great lines have been spoken in films over the years. Each of us have our favorites and some of us use those lines in our conversations at times. It can help to convey our message sometimes in a clearer manor .

Just as there are great lines in movies , there are also great scenes with little or no spoken lines .

Slim Pickens riding the Nuclear Bomb as it fell from the B-52 in Dr. Strangelove.
The Showdown between Eli Wallach , Lee Van Cleef and Clint Eastwood in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly .
The scene in Cool Hand Luke where the girl puts on a show washing her car as the working prisoners can only watch .

I like Action/Adventure/Thriller type movies . However just chases / fights / and sex are no substitute for a well written/thought out story .
