ESPN

"We are a team comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds," Baldwin said during the video. "And as a team, we have chosen to stand and interlock arms in unity. We honor those who have fought for the freedom we cherish. And we stand to ensure the riches of freedom and the security of justice for all people. Progress can and will be made only if we stand together."

Here's the part from a follow up  to the same story that caught my attention:

"I spoke with the players, and they realize that 9/11 is a very important day in our nation's history. The Seahawks, and probably every team, will be honoring those who serve in camouflage and also those in blue who served on such a difficult day. Shortly after 9/11, our country seemed more unified than I had ever experienced and was the most unified it has been since I have been alive. Since that date, we have grown farther apart in our unity. Standing together this Sunday is key to making progress. What the team will do is a powerful sign of unification.

This has been come and more true as the year has progressed.

Also interesting:

Nate Boyer, a former Green Beret who spent last summer with the Seahawks, has been in contact with the team about its plans.

Boyer also met with Kaepernick earlier this month to discuss his protest and was instrumental in persuading the San Francisco 49ers quarterback to kneel -- instead of sitting -- during the national anthem.

They can protest however they want.
I seriously don't see how disrespecting the country will do anything except drive an even bigger divide between the races.

Like I have said before, 99.9% of the police are good honest hard working people.
And also factual is, that the majority of those people killed while in police custody did something that caused their own demise. It's not like there are blacks just being gunned down by police just for being black.
As long as no one will do anything about that fact, nothing CAN change.
I know.....how DARE me say those things.
But SOMEONE has to have the guts to say it.
If you were a cop, and some punk threatened your life where YOU might never have your family see you again if you didn't protect yourself, what would you do???

The squeaky wheel gets the grease comes to mind here. A small percentage of officers are dog shit and the entire group gets labeled because of the attention those receive. Officers are human and make mistakes regardless of skin color. We should honor those who do their duty the right way instead of condemning the lot of them because of that small percent.

That said, improvements can and should be made.

Kevin, you made a real point in your post.
It's the same with racism.
Here we have a bunch of multi millionaire athletes locking arms or kneeling.
I just wonder why these guys don't go into the bad neighborhoods where these things are happening and actually trying to do something.
Locking arms and standing against the anthem.....gee......how many of the bad people (criminals or bad cops) give a damn about these types of "protests"?
And throwing money at it. Unless someone in charge actually has an idea how it can help, it does nothing to change anything.
Just makes the giver look and feel good.

So the Seahawks locking arms was in support of the soldiers and police and contrary to the idiot Kaeperdink.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Last night on the tv news I saw police running into a crashed car that was ablaze.
There were 5 people, 4 of which were trapped in the burning car, 2 which were children in car seats. (The last person was ejected from the car)
Anyway, the cops saved all of them, with no reguard for their own lives. That car could have exploded at any moment.
All 5 survived because of the bravery of these police.
I wish these kinds of things got more coverage.
Heroes that put their lives on the line every day, with NO acknowledgement.
