I can see where you're coming from. I could imagine the money we've still got invested in Peppers could be spent somewhere else, but having a good pass rush can cover up pretty much any flaws in your defense.
And we certainly couldn't have signed a guy like Olivier Vernon for the money that Peppers is getting.
I truly believe that, in today's NFL, a guy like Peppers on a limited snap count adds more to a defense than an ILB like Bobby Wagner does. ILB is a position you can get away with being average. The problems pretty much start when you're fielding a below average unit. Something we've been doing these last couple of years.
