I am seeing what amounts to a bunch of name calling here. Kaepernick didn't stand for the anthem and Hey! he's a bad guy! Once you get past the tribalism, it boils down to this:
1. More than anything, football teams do NOT need distractions, and he created one, whether you agree with him or not.
2. Football more than any other sport is a TEAM sport, and by marching to his own drum on this, set himself apart from, and alienated himself from, many of his teammates.
3. As a guy trying to take the reins of leadership for his team, because he's a QB, he has to show more poise than this. Having your say, speaking publicly, etc. is encouraged, but stunts like this don't really help awareness, they just make the people you need to reach bitter.
4. Never forget that in this country, we have the privilege of being able to criticize our institutions, including our goverment, without fear of reprisal. That alone should be celebrated and respected, even if you think we need a change.
