If the Packers traded Randall Cobb for a Tight End, I would be (albeit naively) comfortable going into 2016 with this set of receivers. There are a lot more receivers in this draft than tight ends and I would expect the Packers to draft another receiver.
• Jordy Nelson
• Davante Adams
• Ty Montgomery
• Jared Abberderris
• Jeff Janis
• Jordy Nelson is going to 31 at the start of the 2016 season coming off an ACL injury. Reports are he's tearing it up big time and running two-a-days so if we err on the side of he's going to be back to being Jordy, that's a true WR1 for the Packers.

Davante Adams is a freaking enigma. He had a solid game and then gets injured. If he can keep the straight between the ears and that ankle heals, he could be a decent WR2 and good WR3.

Ty Montgomery was a helluva spark to the offense and his injury is the one I'm most worried about.

Jared Abberderris I believe can fill the role of Randall Cobb and at a lesser price.

Jeff Janis should get a lot of work on his route running and improve.

The problem here, (one of many, admittedly) is what team would part with their Tight End for a Randall Cobb?

I like the idea, we'll be deep at WR and we really really need a TE, Richard Rodgers is a joke.
The question is which TE would you trade for?

Pick up a serviceable "day three" type free agent who can get down the seam. Then find a guy in the draft.

If Tretter can be the backup swing T, we could be OK, there, but I'm a little leery of Bulaga's knees. That dude is young, but he could be done at any moment. I'd like LT to have some priority.

Then you look at the RBs. Starks is on the wrong side of 30, or will be soon. Lacy likes Gilbert Burgers better than he likes football. Granted, I like what little I've seen of Crockett, and we've got some WRs who could play HB, but this could be an area of surprise need, sooner than later.

Then there's OLB. Clay needs to prove he can still do it from the outside. Peppers is all but done, and Neal and Perry are FAs. I might keep Perry, but to me Neal is "just a guy." Elliot and Mulumba are Walden and Zombo 2.0. I'd like Ted to look for an impact pass rusher high in the draft. To me, that's a priority.

• Jordan Reed - Randall Cobb opposite DeSean Jackson could be intriguing for Kirk Cousins. He likes that.
• Tyler Eifert - Bengals might like putting Randall Cobb opposite AJ Green
• Travis Kelce - Chiefs are more of a running team so the TE is less likely to be traded away
•
I would also add Jaguars Julius Thomas, however, Jaguars are pretty well stocked at WR already so they have no motivation, not even in dreamworld of trading for Randall Cobb.

The way McCarthy is utilizing the TE position, Gronk would be mediocre.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

I'll change the question a bit, Zero.

Should the Packers make Cobb or Montgomery a part-time RB and use one out of the backfield more?

You, in theory, achieve a similar effect as a speedier TE: giving Cobb / Montgomery out of the backfield space to operate in the middle.

You have speed with either one to go deep, particularly if a LB commits to covering either Cobb or Montgomery. Instead of Rodgers as a TE in motion and settling as a FB, you have Cobb or Montgomery being a FB. McCarthy has the mindset to get a little creative with the pieces he will have.

Then, have Abby or the remainder of Cobb / Montgomery be the slot receiver. I really liked Abby's production from the slot yesterday, and if the move he put on Blackmon in the Washington playoff game is any indication, he has the quickness to be excel from the slot.

Maybe that takes the need off having a fast TE with Richard Rodgers.

As crazy as this sounds, I like where this offense is heading in 2016. I think I like the idea more of signing Ladarius Green and then we need to draft a quality tackle and make Rodgers feel comfortable behind that line again. Other than that lets keep building this defense!

Reed and Eifert would probably out produce Cobb in those offenses, Kelce probably would if the Chiefs threw more. Thomas is a wild card because of the injury but like you said the Jags have a few good WRs.

I just don't see getting the return value for him with any TE that any GM might be willing to trade.

Assuming we let Jones walk WR wise we will be in pretty much the same boat we were in last year. 2 proven vets but both now with questions (nelson and the injury, Cobbs down year was it a fluke?) 1 2nd year guy who showed flashes but got hurt (Monty) a 3rd year guy with a decent rookie year and a sophomore slump (Adams) and 2 more 3rd year guys with very little experience but at least a little more than we had to go on last year.

All in all we may be in slightly better position if Janis' and Abby's performance yesterday can offset the questions we have in Nelson and Cobb and I do think Monty will be better than Adams but still, trading Cobb means we have 1 proven veteran coming off an injury and still a ton of unproven potential. I wasn't real confident with the group we had going into last year and I wouldn't be real confident with Nelson, Monty, Adams, Janis and Abby going into next year. If we trade Cobb and keep Jones I'd feel better but it would depend on who we could get for him which, like I said, I don't think would be much.

Id rather keep Cobb and try to get Green in free agency.
