I have to believe this is more about some teams inquiring then the Packers putting it out there. The timing just doesn't seem right. The receiver group is lacking veteran depth the way it is. They are a couple of weeks away from the season starting. The #3 and #4 wr spots are still unclear although it looks like Allison and Kumerow have the inside track for now.
How does that look then if Cobb is taken out of the picture? Seems very unsettled to me. The rookie wr's are what they are, rookies, albeit with talent and promise. Ideally they get worked into the picture but more than likely a year away from being able to rely on.
IMO if the Packers were interested in making this move it should have come before now and with more viable options available to them. I, for one, believe Cobb will have a solid year with the old OC and Rodgers back along with it being a contract year that certainly adds incentive for him.
I just take last year and throw it out the window. Hundley only looked for Adams or quick out patterns and never did get comfortable throwing to the middle of the field. With that setup it didn't matter if it was Cobb or somebody else. That position was not going to do much.
