When he was with the Packers, I didn't quite understand the fanfare he received. When he landed the 4 year, $24,500,000 contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, including $10,000,000 guaranteed, I happy for him and glad the Packers didn't match.

And now the Jaguars, the 1 - 5 Jaguars have benched him in favor of Dwayne Gratz. House will still play in the Nickel though, which is probably his highest ceiling value.

Do you still wish the Packers re-signed Davon House knowing he's been benched AND knowing how the young Packers secondary has fared?

I hate to admit I was likely one of those who reluctantly wanted to see him retained out of the fear of the unknown and/or memories of T-Buck and Ahmad Carroll. I'm glad to be wrong and chuckled a little bit reading this.

It is a tough question. I wish we could have kept him, but the money was beyond his value so I am glad he walked (and we will get a good comp pick). Our young DBs are playing great, but we wouldn't have needed to draft 2 of them IMO if we could have signed House to a reasonable deal and could have concentrated on another position in the draft.

While I didn't want to see him go, I couldn't help but think...why does Jax think they know more about developing young DB's than we do? That can't be right. Turned out it isn't.

He was looking to get paid and clearly went to the team with the highest offer. After seeing what Jacksonville game him, I was definitely glad Ted Thompson didn't match because I never valued him much higher than a third or fourth CB on the roster behind Williams and Shields. Both Randall and Rollins have starter potential and have played pretty well given they're rookies and only have room to grow. They've definitely made Heyward expendable once his rookie contract is up.

I would have liked to have him back but only for 1-2 million. I suppose it would have been nice to have him back so as to have a little experience to balance out Randall and Rollins.

Who has played well for the Jaguars?
Jacksonville is the only NFL team that doesn't have a single player you would trade for.

I've always liked House, to me he has the size, speed and skills to be a very good CB outside. He has always played great in man coverage but he wasn't good in zone, dunno what the Jags play.

Honestly I think he is in the pack with Shields, Hayward and Randall, not a lot better nor a lot worse than any of them.

House drew the unenviable task of shadowing DeAndre Hopkins last week, a matchup in which he predictably struggled. It was questionable for the Jaguars to put House in that position in the first place, but it is ridiculous to bench him for struggling against one of the best receivers in the league. Coach Gus Bradley appears to be grasping at straws.

After reading that, this sounds more like a gut check... where the coach is attempting to lit a fire into his belly by punishing him, and if he shows improvement and willing to fight/play back against the punishment he can likely get his job back.

Also note they're playing the Bills this week, who at current passing yards per game rankings, is CLEARLY the worse passing team left on their schedule... so it'd be the perfect time to reduce your coverage CB role, when you need him the least and see if he has the fire in his belly to push back and play better against this semi benching gimmick (if it's a gimmick).

That being said speaking of House leaving via FA and his time as a Packer... I never quite understood why House got all the hype. Don't get me wrong, once in a while he'd come in a make some great plays... but then he'd disappear (injury, get wind knocked out of him or something and coach put in someone else in and stayed with that someone else) or House stayed in and became mistake prone. Mistake prone is what sounds like happened with the Jags, he was keeping the Texans #1 WR in check until the 4th quarter (where I'm guessing the Texans made an adjustment and he didn't adjust with it or he got tired or injured) and then the Texans WR lit him up. When with the Packers House seemed pretty inconsistent to me. Now I'll take inconsistent over consistently horrible (my logic for wanting to stick with inconsistent punter Jon Ryan which sadly turned out more correct than I thought when they brought in Frost) but I felt like Hayward was more consistent and played better and House size and straight line speed were the main reasons fans seemed to give him most hype than any other the other back-ups.

We are better off now without House and with Randall and Rollins - although if we had re-signed House, we undoubtedly would have another quality player procured with either the first or second round pick.

Thompson was clearly right to not pay anywhere near what House got from Jacksonville.

I saw House covering Deandre Hopkins, man coverage on Houston's best receiver last Sunday, and I thought House did a damn good job; I doubt they have anybody better to replace him with.

House does seem to have most of the physical potential the question is can he get the rest?
