Strategically, I think it's smart. I never liked the huge signing. He was a class act though. I wish him the best.

I think it's probably because KGB is one of our highest paid players. If he didn't make so much money, he probably wouldn't have been a casualty.

"all_about_da_packers" wrote:

Are you serious? You think this is solely about money?

KGB is a veteran, meaning the Packers have to pay him his remaining salary for the year, even if they cut him. This move saves the Packers no money, and the fact that we are loads under the salary cap means we didn't need to save the money anyways, seeing as cap surplus doesn't carry from year to year.

This move is simply to sure up our biggest weakness: Run D. KGB is a one trick pony, and lately he had been doing his one trick pretty poorly. Given that KGB doesn't play ST either, this move was the only move that would least impact the overall dynamics of the team. Pettaway and Hunter will now be relied on to fill KGB's role on 3rd Downs.

The interesting thing in all of this is that I thought KGB was coming off his best game of the season against the Colts. That's not really saying a whole lot considering how ineffective KGB has been this year, but I thought the improvement would've bought him some time to see if he could continue his upward play. I guess that wasn't going to be the case.

Awww man.........my wife is gonna be crushed! He was her favorite player.
I really liked him too.
Truth is though, it's a business, and he wasn't playing well at all.
Makes me VERY sad.

While lots has been said about Kabeers amazing class I just wonder where you guys think he could end up going. Do any of you think he would be a good fit as a pass rushing LB in a 3-4 or would he get exposed in pass coverage. Or will he stick to the 4-3 or simply retire?

I think someone that thinks he can still pass rush will pick him up.
If his knees really are getting bad, i don't think LB would be a good spot for him.
JMO of course.

I saw this coming from a mile away. He just didn't have the motor anymore. I love KGB...but we needed to move on without him.

What a first class guy as evidenced by his statement. He will be missed, and I hope he sticks around the community and hopefully the organization in another manner.

Farewell to a Packer great. You will be missed and you will always be a Packer.

I will miss him as a part of this team mostly because of the amazing years of service he gave to the Green Bay Packers.

I do agree with the point above though that unfortunately the one thing he was kept here to do, he just cannot do effectively anymore. Other teams were also quick to catch onto what we were trying to do when he was put in and we got burned every time.

I wish KGB the best. Hopefully the great commentator tongue twister can continue to play or find another outlet for his passions. I have no doubt that he will.

Wow, this is a shocker. I can see what Ted is thinking, though. KGB has become a speed rusher without the speed. Jeremy Thompson has passed him up. I was hoping KGB's knee would get better, and he would be back to his old self before the end of the season, but he's now to the age where injuries don't heal so quickly. Too bad. I've always had a lot of respect for him. What a classy statement he made in that article. This had to be really crushing for him. Just a couple days ago I had seen him on TV saying that he thought he would be back up to speed soon.

Somebody will pick him up as a pass rushing specialist in a 4-3 defense, unless his injury is worse than we know, which is possible.
