Outside of Edgar Bennett and whatever position he's coached/is coaching, Whitt and DB position is the one I worry least about.

Definitely agree that Thompson was surprised by House getting the contract he got. Everyone in the NFL was. His loss does worry me a bit in that we need to rely on rookies if injuries strike. However I like our starters 3 deep in shields, hayward, and hyde. Hopefully they can avoid injuries at least long enough for the rookies to get up to speed.

At this time, The Packers CB's are :

Sam Shields - 6yr - Miami (Fla.)
Casey Hayward - 4yr - Vanderbilt
Demetri Goodson - 2yr - Baylor
Tay Glover-Wright - 1yr - Utah State
Benard Blake - R - Colorado State
LaDarius Gunter - R - Miami
Travis Manning - R - N.W. Missouri State
Quinton Rollins - R - Miami (Ohio)
Damarious Rollins - R - Arizona State

IMO, this Secondary is very weak. In addition, if Shields and/or Hayward go down, teams will pad their Offensive numbers through the air. The proof will come on the fields of this seasons regular games. Experienced WR's will be licking their chops to play the Packers. (But don't blame TT, he just signs the checks after all . )

The talent is there for this CB group to be fantastic but the big question is whether they can get them ready to play at a decent level this year. As long as they play well enough during the year to get us into the playoffs what really matters is what the group looks like in December. I think barring health issues they should be pretty strong by then between Shields/Hayward/Hyde + one or two of the young guys stepping up throughout the year.

Yeah, I personally wish House was still around, but it's completely understandable why he wasn't resigned. There will be some growing pains, but hopefully things shape up by the playoffs, which is mostly all that matters.

I don't know what to expect of the CB group yet this year, I think there is some very good potential there but I don't know if they're ready yet for the big stage. I'm expecting (if they're healthy) to see Shields and Hayward outside a lot and Hyde in the slot. If something happens to Shields or Hayward, I wouldn't be surprised if they moved Hyde back to CB.

One article I read made it seem like of the young CBs (ie not Shields, Hayward nor Hyde) the top 3 so far seem to b Randall, Rollins and Gunter even over guys that were here last year like draft pick Goodson. Will have to wait and see how it all turns out.

Secondary is going to be the strength of the 2015 defense. You'll see. You'll believe.

The Packers DBs shined early on while in Dom's aggressive 3-4 scheme, and now they're back to it, I think they could shine again if the front is able to do a better job.

The Packers were in a more aggressive scheme from '09 to '11 ... winning the Super Bowl in '10 and get burned alive in '11, as they no longer had the DL to run the aggressive scheme with. They have been trying to get DL for the aggressive scheme and switched back to it last year but then lost Raji and struggled against the run (at least until Matthews was put in the middle).

If that front is able to do it's job once again at a high level, I think the Packers healthy DBs could shine a lot and make Packers fans lot the DBs again like they did with Woodson, Harris, Tramon and Shields two years there in '09 and '10.

I can name a few people that are thinking very much about the secondary.

Jay Cutler
Russell Wilson
Phillip Rivers
Peyton Manthing
Tony Romo and Matthew Stafford

They are very anxious to see the Packers secondary 😢
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Not a single damn one of them strikes an ounce of fear in this fan. BRING IT ON!!
