It wasn’t the hardware he was after when the season began, but the award Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers received Saturday night at the NFL Honors event solidified his place among the league’s all-time best.

Well....it's no Lombardi trophy, but it's better then no awards.
He earned it.

This MVP just has a weird feeling to it. I think there are people in the public fatigued by this becoming a defacto QB award, especially in a year when JJ had such a good case for it. Then you add in the lingering stench from the Seattle disappointment and it feels when you get the "effort award" at your team's end of the season banquet.

This is by no means a knock on Aaron, it's well deserved. It just has sort of a "meh" feel to it, at least for me.

Congratulations to Rodgers. He can put it next to that empty spot on the shelf where the NFCCG trophy should be.

I know the MVP is not strictly a statistics award but I just don't know if Rodgers was that much ahead of some of the other players and when you throw in the season that Watt had it just makes it, like you said, kind of a "meh" award.

Take the rookie of the year award as a comparison. Given that a lineman will never win the award OBJ was the hands down winner IMO. If you could have even considered Allen last year there is no way in hell OBJ didn't deserve it this year. No other rookie WR, RB or QB was even close.

Despite what some people think it is difficult to determine "value" Last year the Packers got a taste of how valuable Rodgers is but it is difficult to predict with much accuracy just what would have happened to the Steelers if Bell or Big Ben would have gone down for an extended period of time. Same in Dallas with Murray or Romo and what about Lynch in Seattle. DO the Texans only lose 1 or 2 more games without Watt? its difficult to say.

If I had a vote I probably would have voted for Rodgers because I am a Packer fan but if I could be a totally impartial judge (is there such a thing) I probably would have gone for Watt (him being a Badger would have helped though I don't know why I'm a Badger fan as I went to UW Eau Claire)

I also feel that it has a been there done that sort of feeling with Rodgers. I mean its great that he had the year he did but he's done it before and we all expect he will do it again. I was far more excited that Lacy won the ROY last year because its such a rare treat for Packer fans to even have a player in consideration. Our QB is in the talk for MVP almost every year.

Obviously it is no substitution for the Hallas trophy and a chance to hoist the Lombardi trophy and I think we can all agree that Rodgers would trade it in a heartbeat but that is not possible so why not enjoy it as fans and let him enjoy it as a player. Its not like him winning the MVP is the reason we didn't beat Seattle.

Rodgers has crazy good statistics. I think we all know why. But he is a good player as well. I don't put this NFCCG fiasco on him.

Although I still can't get over the idea they were shaving points. I think they were supposed to win, but they were terrified of covering the spread. I mean really. Who downs an INT like that? WTF.
