Everyone always says "the kick looked low" but it's kind of hard to blame a low kick when first of all that's a hard thing to judge and 2nd of all whenever there's been a block it's pretty much from a dude who has gotten past the line. I'll say maybe the kick was low when a guy who is standing at the line blocks it but if it's from a guy that got penetration into the backfield, that's just poor blocking.

Both Mashtay and Crosby are doing strange things when kicking.
I've seen Crosby practicing effects in the extra points and it doesn't surprise me we got a couple of meaningless XPs blocked.

Mashtay is not timing the kicks well enough and his foot placement has been terrible to say the least. It is a good thing he has a good leg otherwise we would have seen a 20 yarder potato a couple of times this season.

Everything is mental, both kickers have the physical skills and the technique to do it better, they are not doing it right at this time and of course I have no idea why but I understand it must be difficult to fix somebody's mind.

Tim Masthay has troubled me a bit more than Crosby. Masthay I thought was a pro-bowl calibre punter. He has looked down-right awful at times this season. Granted we have had him punting in opposition territory where a bit of foot finagling is required, but man what happened.

I don't have the stats on the blocks on Crosby, but I think 2 were from beyond 50 yards which I often think we should in general just go for it unless we are in a dome. The PAT being blocked is inexcusable, but then again it could just be shitty blocking as steve has brought up.

It just occurred to me that other team's fans might be rolling their eyes at the nothing topics we seem to discuss. Maybe our kicking game would be an issue if we didn't have a prolific scoring offense year after year. I'm always reminded of that Bear fans comment -try playing a game without an elite quarterback for once, lucky fucks. LOL

The odd thing about Masthay is that statistically this is a pretty average year for him. His average is in the middle of the pack for his career (better than two seasons, worse than two others). But it seems to be one good punt, one bad punt with him these days. According to this article  Slocum ordered a kick angled out to take the ball away from Ross late in the game (as I'm pretty sure Zero pointed out in chat).

Is this sarcasm or what?

Do you really mean what you say - another thread going to the "fire Ted" extreme, which is kinda far-fetched considering the quality of the team?

On the other hand, if you are being sarcastic, you are hitting too close to the truth. As I say every time this "fire Ted" thing comes up, he is surviving and indeed getting praised for one and almost only one reason: the fact that by luck or skill, take your pick, he got us the greatest QB in the NFL, maybe ever. Beyond that, he has been fairly deficient in maximizing things.
