It is very hard, if not impossible, to see the present when filtered strictly through the past.
This is a Green Bay Packers fan problem and has been as long as I've been a fan of this team. The belief that we're either good or are going to be good always loses out to the reality of the situation.
A few years ago I was bantering with a non Packers fan about Clay Matthews statements of the Giants not really beating the Packers rather it was the Packers who beat themselves. That Giants fan said that was the Packers problem, the excuses. That Giants fan lambasted me for drinking the Clay Matthews kool aid that it wasn't really that the Giants were better, it was that the Packers who just beat themselves. As I reflect on how I responded as nerd and many other Packers fans would've to those allegations, I'm ashamed of how I once thought. The reason many Packers fans bought Clay Matthews crap at the time is because we'd pounded them at Lambeau the year before...just laid it on them.
The point is PAST YEARS are PAST YEARS. Past performance doesn't guarantee future results. That is the trap I see so many falling into here. It is NOT 2010 or 2011 anymore. It is now 2014. I'm friends with a former NFL RB who was in camp with the Raiders and Chiefs. He said this Packers team isn't very good and the team no longer has a TE which is really hurting Rodgers.
You can't lose the people out of this front office, Greg Jennings, James Jones, etc. Another point the ex NFL'er made is the guy who was a 3rd WR type back during the SB year is now their only threat. He said Cobb wasn't very good and was totally unproven and that the Packers had nothing in their WR corps. No TE and only one WR and it's no wonder Aaron is struggling according to him.
That's a view from a guy who has been in NFL locker rooms and is close with players like Von Miller...he's all football all the time.
I didn't bother reading the "Burke Blotter"...a losing season is NOT okay. Time will have to be the teacher. Once the Packers are finally seen for what they are this whole thing will flip in subsequent years...when the team starts inclining again one day you will filter the team as being bad because you saw them as bad for a period of time.
Just see what is RIGHT NOW. This team is not very good.
Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."
