The Green Bay Packers won't announce until Saturday whether they're activating defensive tackle Justin Harrell from the physically-unable-to-perform list Friday, but Harrell says hes ready to play again and very well could be needed.

Harrell has had two surgeries on his lower back since March and just returned to the practice field this week, the first week hes eligible to come off PUP. He practiced all three days and said he has no pain in his lower back the surgeries were to correct a bulging disc.

The biggest issue is whether coach Mike McCarthy thinks Harrell is ready to play in an NFL game after missing the entire offseason, all of training camp and the first six weeks of the regular season. The Packers only have three defensive tackles likely to play this week Ryan Pickett, Johnny Jolly and Colin Cole so theyre anxious to get Harrell on the field as soon as possible.

Harrell said he hasnt lobbied McCarthy to play.

My lobbying is going out there on the field and showing them I can do it, Harrell said.

If the Packers activate Harrell, theyll have to make room for him on the 53-man roster by cutting someone or placing someone on injured reserve. One possibility would be placing defensive end Jason Hunter (hamstring) on IR, though the team would prefer to allow him to heal up and play again this season.

Two starters listed as questionable (50 percent chance of playing) said they both expect to play, Pickett (elbow) and center Scott Wells (shoulder/chest). Starting safety Atari Bigby (hamstring) is doubtful (25 percent chance of playing). Defensive ends Mike Montgomery (ankle) and Hunter (hamstring) also are doubtful, as is receiver James Jones (knee).

BTW, Pete Dougherty failed to mention that Al Harris has been ruled out for Sunday. No big surprise. I think thats the smart move.

Are we even going to see Bigby again this season? This is one slow healing Hamstring. There must be more to it than that.
Maybe I'm just too impatient.

I've always loved this guy's attitude, Harrel's I mean. Just the fact that he proves what he's worth on the field and during practice. He seems like the real deal.

I've heard all the DB are supposed to be healthy after the bye week if they don't get hurt between now and then.

A lot of people have attack Harrell because of all his injures, and well they do have a point. But a lot of those people also say, Harrell hasn't done anything yet, and if you singled him out and watched just him last year you would of saw he showed a huge amount of potential. He showed potential to be one of the best DT in the NFL, and I think he can get there if he works hard and stay healthy.

The only real negative I saw was after he broke through line was he didn't have much speed to get to the QB. But that could of been because he was basically out for a year and may of been out of shape.

But Harrell busted though a couple of OLs like they were nothing. They weren't the best OL but he was a rookie coming off over a year away from the game.

I'm not going to say Harrell will ever become something because he's injury history I don't know if he will, but he's has some of the best potential in the NFL.

I watched Harrel last year and didn't think much of him, for the little he played (and I was sitting in Lambeau as I watched).
The dude had an injuriy history in college, he was injured when he was drafted and has been injured since he has been in Green Bay.
I wonder how many meaningful minutes we will get out of him this year?

Yeah, I didn't see much from Harrell either. Maybe one or two plays where he overpowered people. I am hoping that all these injuries are just bad luck, plain and simple, and that he will be a good player once he heals up and gets into the swing of things.

If Justin stays healthy which I really hope he does he will be one of the best DT's in NFL in a about 2 years ... His still young, very strong his only flaw is his durability

dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
