These other guys have the upside he doesn't. If Janis, Dorsey and Harper play lights out the rest of the way, I wouldn't count on Boykin being a lock for the team much less the 3 spot. Boykin has not had a good camp per reports and did nothing last night, either.

I just don't believe Jarrett Boykin possesses a skill set that makes him a lock.

I think Adams will EVENTUALLY be a great receiver. BUT, rookie receivers generally struggle and Boykin proved last year he could do it. To say that Boykin will be cut is pure fantasy unless you can give me something to back it up. And dont give me the "he doesnt have the measurables" crap. Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, and your boy Alshon Jeffery were all supposedly "slow" coming out of college and they are doing just fine.

Also Don't bother bringing up his 4.74 forty time. Jerry Rice ran a 4.71 and got a few good years out of it.

We drafted 3 WR's for a reason. Don't forget Boykin came to us via a tryout after being cut by Jax. That doesn't mean he isn't good it just puts in perspective that Janis and Adams were actually drafted by us. That tells you we liked those guys. We didn't like Boykin enough to draft him or sign him after, although I don't know for sure we didn't try signing him as an UDFA. Had Abbrederis not been injured there are 3 guys we actually drafted THIS year. Throw in Dorsey from last year....that's 4 guys we drafted vs. Boykin whom we did not...all 4 of those draftees were drafted during or after Boykin could've been. IE: We liked those guys coming out more than Jarrett Boykin.

If Dorsey, Janis and Adams play lights out why does Boykin automatically stick? Abby going out may have saved him. It's not like Boykin is some powerhouse WR. He's a good player with poor speed. He can jump and has great hands. I have never said he's not making the team. I just think calling him a lock putting him in Cobb and Nelson territory is an inaccurate depiction of his standing on this team. He's the John Kuhn of the WR's... Kuhn is a good player with limited ability. Kuhn is no lock and neither is Boykin.

Boykin isn't slow though. He has a poor timed 40 yard dash at the combine but he sure as hell didn't look very slow actually playing last year. Boykin is a lock because whatever the other guys do in pre season this year doesn't trump 700 yards in 12 actual games. I wouldn't be surprised if Adams tops him on the depth chart sometime next year but Adams has potential to be a #1 or #2 starter while Boykin will probably have a career more like James Jones has.

But Boykins could also stick as the #3 WR if none of the step up... Boykins is probably going to make the 53 man roster unless he's injured or something amazing happens (they're very unlikely) and a lot of other WRs play great and pass him.

I think it makes sense to be very excited about Lacy than it does about Boykin averaging 58 yards a game as a preferred option in our passing game minus Finley and Cobb.

Boykin is a fine player... I like him. Love his hands and ability to go up and get it. It still can't be refuted we took 4 WR's (5 if you count Charles Johnson) and didn't draft Jarrett. We liked those other 5 WR's better. We obviously liked Boykin enough to offer him a tryout but if you want to compare DRAFTING 5 WR's vs. offering a tryout to a cut guy there is no question we valued the 5 we drafted more. If those drafted show to justify our faith by their performance this TC and pre-season, I don't know why Boykin is a lock. He's not. He's a good bet...but we have no idea what these others are going to offer because we haven't gotten there yet. All could be money big time players. I've heard more buzz on Janis and Dorsey than I have on Boykin...Harper, as well. Abby would be in that group, also. Abbrederis is a guy I think is going to be better than Jarrett. That would drop Boykin to a 5th if Abby had stayed healthy and I was correct. You're then comparing Boykin vs. a guy like Janis who has better measurables than almost any WR coming out in the last few years...and you drafted that guy and Boykin you didn't.

Lock is the wrong term for Boykin. Good bet. Is more accurate.

I like Boykin.

I just hate saying his name.

and number 11 on a WR.

change those 2 things and he's GOLDEN!
