The little guy in Cleveland aside, there may not be a more intriguing prospect from the 2014 NFL draft class than former University of Oregon tight end Colt Lyerla.

The tight end slipped through the draft and was signed as a free agent by the Green Bay Packers, but Lyerla’s explosive past and unpredictable future ensure many sets of binoculars will be trained on him.

Couldn't possibly have landed in a better place.

Not only does GB guarantee rookie FAs a chance to actually contribute, but there may not be a better supporting cast for wayward players in the league. Granted, the town is a fish bowl, but this team has a history of taking guys in and getting their heads straightened out. Woody is just the prime example.

Not much else to do in GB than go to Applebee's and play football.

Trying to project forward to see who they hold onto for the roster, I wonder if they feel if they had to cut him to save room elsewhere, if anyone would pick him up? Ted Thompson may gamble if he really needs a roster spot, elsewhere, and he probably will, that he could hide Lyerla on PS because nobody wanted to touch him post draft. Will be one of the most interesting decisions to watch for me. Really looking forward to seeing Bostick and this guy duke it out.

I get the appeal based on his story, but I am not all that interested. More interested in Hubbard and Richard Rodgers.

But if you think clubbin' is overrated it isn't terrible. Tons of outdoor activities, sporting events and what not.. you can slide down to Milwaukee or Chi town for a weekend of pro sports or what not.

Personally I loved my time in Green Bay.. I went back again after college.. there is plenty to do. And I have lived in some bigger cities in America at times to compare it to.

It lacks pro sports draws and top notch clubs.. other than that.. it provides a wide range of interests. Maybe not the breadth of choice in a bigger city, but offers them just the same.

Now if you talk weather.. yeah.. it is hamstrung for 5 to 6 months a year.

If you're from a big city, or a place where ice fishing isn't held in high esteem, then I can see why Green Bay is basically a few streets and an Applebees.

I lived in Chicago and small town WI... I'll take small town WI. I don't believe there's a truly more miserable place to live than Chicago and I lived in Wichita, KS.

The main issue for athletes and Green Bay is for the african american. Just turn it around and imagine yourself in a fishbowl city where almost everyone is of another race save for your teammates. That would be uncomfortable. I was on a business trip many years ago in Rochester, NY. I set out to walk through the downtown. During that walk of mine there was a 3 on 3 basketball tourney going on one of the streets. The sidewalks were lined with people. I only saw 2 or 3 other white folks as I walked block after block. That will give you a new appreciation for what it's like to be "different".

Plus, most of these athletes are looking for hot chicks. I have never gone chick hunting in Green Bay, but I gotta believe it's pretty sparse compared to other cities and that's a problem for these guys. There should be a push to make Green Bay a more diverse city with hotter women. 🙂

dfosterf (25-Jun) : You do have to interpret the boring fine print, but all stockholders all see he is on the ballot
dfosterf (25-Jun) : It also says he is subject to another ballot in 2028. I recall nothing of this nature with Murphy

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.

Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
