I've noticed that Aaron Rodgers is every bit as good as he was made out to be. He is a good thrower, an astute player with a very good arm. However, I noticed that he tends to get sacked alot because he is holding on to the ball a bit too long.

IF you were the coach, would you call more plays where ARod would roll out to buy more time? Or would you change the play calling so that he can throw it out of there quicker?

Any other opinions on how Rodgers can get rid of the ball more quickly?

I would do both. I think it is smart to roll him out, because he seems to do pretty well on the run. But it also gives him the opportunity to run it if he has the room.
I like the quick passes as well. I think they are so hard to defend against. You dont get the big yardage on them, but they are a sure way to move the chains. I would try a combo of both.

well if i were coach, I would give Aaron Rodgers more than 5 games to get accustomed to all the little nuances of being an NFL QB.

well big ben is having the same problem i think a-rod did pretty good on sunday but ball protection is important and i agree maybe do both

I don't think it's ever a horrible idea to roll a guy out, especially when he can move like Aaron can. The biggest problem is that you risk cutting the field in half and reducing his options, which might lead to more holding the ball too long.

I'll go w/ Packnic on this one -- let Aaron adjust to the game and the issue will fix itself. I mean, it's not like he's getting sacked 5X per game or anything, and it's certainly not as if he's performed poorly.

And here's something: Why in the hell does Big Ben get nothing but praise for the same thing Aaron gets criticized for? What up with that? (EDIT: whoops -- gbpfan beat me to that one)

If I was coach.. first order of business is to come on here and clean this place of the hacks... like Pack93z.. they piss me off.

Second, I would start my trip down to James Campen's office to have a little chat about run blocking, blitz pickups, consistency and lack of freaking growth of the hog mollies up front.. that are killing my QB. An effective running attack would help the play action pass become effective in the offense.. not to mention blocking on freaking screen play correctly.

Third, I would then venture to Philbin's office, call in McAdoo and figure out where our tight ends have gone in the passing game and what to do about getting a little more out of them in run blocking.. no o'lay blocks.

Fourth.. Tommy Clement, I and Aaron would start to look at progressions on offense.. maybe changing the read scenario's to have a quick dump off as the second read.. not further down the progress. Additionally show film of Aikman, Trent Green and Steve Young.. the effects of getting hit at the QB position.. stressing the importance of speeding up the decision making process in the pocket..

After that.. I probably would walk into Ted's office and ask for a couple of options at the DT and offensive line depth.. especially a little more experience along the oline.

To finish the day.. I think I would stroll down the street.. enter Brett's steakhouse and have a couple of drinks to cap the day. Reassuring myself that in time, Aaron will gain the experience and playing time to quicken the clock in his head during each play.. something that comes with time playing the position. Just as the owner once learned.. so will the pupil.

Actually 93z, I think one of the problems with Rodgers early on has been that he is a bit hesitant to go to his first read.

I'd like to see him take a bit more chances, maybe try and squeeze one in there. I think he did that more against the Seahawks, which is progress.

I totally agree with getting more out of the TE position. If I were the coach I'd look into having 3 TE sets where Humphrey and Lee and Nelson are the TEs, tring to shift Nelson to that he has a LB on him and can do some damage. Of course I would do this when James Jones came back healthy as the #3 WR.

Maybe, but that is a risky habit to start with a developing QB.. I would rather have him learn to check down when he doesn't like a read a little faster.. to me.. seems if he stays on that first read a bit long waiting for it to uncover.. then checks down and looks to move around a bit.. if the pocket is collapsing it is a sack.

I am all for rollout, but he is going to take some shots doing that.. queue the Kearny hit this past weekend.. they have a head of steam built up and unload on the QB.. at least pocket sacks for the most part aren't nearly as vicious.

But let me make sure I am clear on this.. his play and the way he plays is pretty impressive for a starter of six games. He just needs to tune in that clock in his head the a QB uses from the point the ball is snapped to release.. the ball has to go someplace after the clock winds down.. even if it is a fling throwing it away. Negative plays are drive killers.

We're not actually complaining about a quarterback who is "responsible" with the football are we? This year's problems for the GBP has very little to do with the quarterback.

If I were coach, I would address these penalties that are absolutely killing us this year. In the Atlanta game, I would have committed another penalty myself chewing some zebra's a$$ on that Patrick Lee pass interference call (that penalty cost 7 pts for those that forgot).

beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic

Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
