It's true that Raji has never been a beast if you compare him to a guy like JJ Watt, but Clay Matthews isn't a beast when you compare him to Lawrence Taylor, either. Watt has just been out of this world as a 3-4 DE, playing on a Bruce Smith level.
That said, his 2010 season was comparable to the seasons Jay Ratliff put up in Dallas. But at 340lbs. With BJ's college play and those first two, three season, I can't imagine it was all a fluke.
Having him change back to NT is going to solve a lot of his problems. On paper, he should have the athleticism to play a 3-4 DE and I think the coaches just hung on to that for too long.
I think that the thing that serves him best about playing NT primarily, is that he doesn't have to rotate through positions and schemes too much. Between the vast playbook of the last few years, Raji playing in a lot of packages and playing multiple positions, I think he might've become more of a jack of all trades, master of none. Mentally, I don't think he's been able to grasp everything that's been thrown at him. He didn't miss a season in college for academic reasons for nothing.
