Should done my trade idea with the 49ers!

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Ted Thompson did not come right out and say it, and Ray Farmer was not asked about it.

But it's safe to say that the general managers of the Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns discussed a trade for the 21st overall pick in Thursday's first round.

"Um," Thompson said with a smile. "We talked to a number of teams."

A few minutes after Thompson picked Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, the Browns traded up to No. 22 to take quarterback Johnny Manziel.

How about that? 4 Safeties chosen in Round 1! And, we got arguably the best of the lot. No injury concerns. Was considered a top 10 talent.

I'm SO glad Ted didn't trade out!!! We need the best player we could get there. Check that... "needed" - How cool is that?

I feel super oddly relieved having this kid in a GB uniform. It has been 3 long years without a top Safety. I really missed Collins, and it is good to know we finally added a top talent there!

I have to believe the reason we didn't trade back is we didn't believe the guy we wanted would be there at 26. The Safeties all went quickly and I have to believe the Eagles wanted Dix.

What I am more curious is why the Saints jumped in front of us to get Cooks. I saw Cooks mocked to us a few times, but was not convinced we would go there in the 1st.

I expected a trade and it didn't happen. I guess Uncle Teddy valued CD much higher than who ever else would have been on the board.

The DRAFT, is a gamble.
