The Green Bay Packers are expected to hire New Mexico State's offensive line coach Steve Marshall to be the team's assistant offensive line coach after Joel Hilgenberg resigned last week to spend more time with his family.

Marshall had two prior stints in the NFL coaching the offensive line with the Houston Texans (2002-05) and Cleveland Browns (2007-08).
Marshall's 2007 Browns' offensive line surrendered the third fewest sacks (19) in the league.

I thought I read somewhere that one of the reasons Bakhtiari left school a year early was because he didn't like the coaching.

Marshall was also the OL/Run Game Coordinator  during Chad Clifton's first year (redshirt) at Tennessee. 🖐

BTW, one of the comments on his picture linked in the profootballtalk.com section was hilarious:

They said to Steve “Welcome to Green Bay!”, then snapped his picture.

I didn't recall Bakhtiari saying anything about his coaches being the reason so I wanted to look for quotes or any source on this.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1665265/david-bakhtiari

While Colorado struggled through yet another poor season in 2012, which ultimately led to the firing of head coach Jon Embree, Bakhtiari against was a bright spot with second-team All-Pac-12 honors.

"I've been contemplating this for a long time," Bakhtiari said in announcing he would leave school a year early for the NFL. "It didn't have anything to do with Jon Embree [former Colorado head coach] being fired. I had always intended to see where the NFL was going to position me after I submitted myself for the review.

"The evaluation came back and had me in the second- to third-round range for a pick, but I also received some good feedback from Steve Marshall [Colorado offensive line coach] and Coach Embree, who spoke with several of their contacts around the league, and they thought I might even go a little bit higher, and that helped, too."

From what he said here it didn't seem to have anything to do with his coaches.

Also, Marshall didn't return with Colorado for the 2013 season either. I'm not sure if Bakhtiari knew this before declaring for the draft but if the head coach had already been fired it stands a good chance he knew Marshall wouldn't be back either.

Marshall seems like a good hire for the position. I've often thought David Bakhtiari was one of the true steals from the 2013 draft, and hiring Marshall should help with his continued development.

I found this interview with Bakhtiari of interest... I kept a blurb on Nick Perry in here but the meat is about Coach Marshall below.

http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/davidbakhtiariinterview.html

Alex Kozora: Are Perry and Beal the two toughest guys that you have faced?

David Bakhtiari: There’s a bunch. Nick Perry is a hell of a player. I also played against Cameron Jordan as a freshman.

Alex Kozora: Your offensive line coach Steve Marshall has 33 years of coaching experience. How valuable is that to you and the rest of the line?

David Bakhtiari: It definitely is. He is a character though. I want to put that on record. He’s a great coach though, teaches us a lot of things. He takes pride in his coaching and knows a lot. In the film room, it really helps.

He sees the details and wants to fix them. It’s a great opportunity to have him around.

Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
beast (30-Jan) : I wonder what's taking so long with hiring a DL coach, 2 of the 3 known to interview have already been hired elsewhere.

Martha Careful (25-Jan) : thank you Mucky for sticking up for me
Martha Careful (25-Jan) : some of those people are smarter than you zero. However Pete Carroll is not
Mucky Tundra (24-Jan) : Rude!
beast (24-Jan) : Martha? 😋
Zero2Cool (24-Jan) : Raiders hired someone from the elderly home.
dfosterf (24-Jan) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (24-Jan) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
