GREEN BAY — Mark Murphy's spring ritual regarding Brett Favre is always the same: Be asked about the iconic quarterback at the NFL Meetings, be asked about him again at the kickoff of the annual Tailgate Tour.

And so it was that the Green Bay Packers president was asked about Favre again Tuesday as he and a half-dozen current and former players departed Lambeau Field for their five-day trip to Michigan's Upper Peninsula

Except this time, unlike his conversation with reporters last month  at The Ritz-Carlton Grande Lakes resort in Orlando, Fla., Murphy actually delivered quite the news nugget to reporters before boarding the team bus:

The organization tried to bring Favre back to Lambeau Field for a game last season, but Favre, now the offensive coordinator for Oak Grove High School in Hattiesburg, Miss., couldn't leave his team while it was on a winning streak.

"It's kind of the same. There's not a lot to report," Murphy told reporters. "We do have ongoing communications with him and I think relations are good. We're hopeful to have him come back soon.

"We wanted to have him come back to a game last year, (but) his team kept winning and winning, so it kind of made of made it tough to find a time where it worked."

Favre helped Oak Grove to the Mississippi Class 6A state championship last season, the school's first state title. He apparently has decided not to return for another season , however.

That would seem to indicate the odds are good that Favre will make his Lambeau return in 2014. The NFL has not yet announced the 2014 regular-season schedule.

At the NFL Meetings, Murphy reaffirmed that the club would retire Favre's No. 4 before the quarterback enters the Pro Football Hall of Fame, presumably on the first ballot in 2016. It's also possible that the Packers could bring him back to Lambeau for a game, then bring him back for a subsequent game for the number retirement.

At the NFL Meetings, Murphy said he believed — based on his conversations with Favre — that Favre is looking forward to returning to Green Bay, where he was the Packers' quarterback from 1992 through 2007 before being traded to the New York Jets in 2008 and returning as a member of the Minnesota Vikings in 2009 and 2010.

"[I've been talking] directly with him. Texting, but some conversations," Murphy said last month. "I think he's excited to come back. It's really just kind of working out the timing."

Ahhh yes... a new round of Favre discussions... those that still worship him vs those that loath him yet.. and the masses in between. [grin1]

Personally.. I hope it comes to reality soon.. and buries most of the drama still lingering around it.

Its going to happen. My question is, do we do something now, and also after he goes into the HOF. His name shouldn't go up on the façade until than.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Just get it done. I was as pissed at Favre as anyone else, but I'm totally over it now. Just like a bad breakup, I'm not going to hold on to something forever (unless there is new stuff happening). What happened happened, both sides had their reasons, and both sides could have handled the situation better. In the end, it all worked out, especially for Packer fans, so who cares? The issue has been more than acknowledged. I think it's time to start integrating Favre back into his home team. He's a very important part of the Packers. I think completely mending fences would be good for everyone.

dfosterf (14h) : So eerily quiet here in Alexandria. I live in the flight path of commercial craft coming from the south and west, plus the military craft
dfosterf (14h) : So eeri
Mucky Tundra (17h) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (18h) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (18h) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (19h) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
beast (21h) : I wonder what's taking so long with hiring a DL coach, 2 of the 3 known to interview have already been hired elsewhere.
Zero2Cool (27-Jan) : Packers coach Matt LaFleur hires Luke Getsy as senior assistant, extends Rich Bisaccia's deal

dfosterf (27-Jan) : Happy Birthday Dave!
Mucky Tundra (27-Jan) : happy birthday dhazer
TheKanataThrilla (26-Jan) : Exactly buck...Washington came up with the ball. It is just a shitty coincidence one week later
buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : I forgot, they corrected the call a week later. Lol btw HAPPY BIRTHDAY dhazer!
buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : That brings up the question, why wasn't Nixon down by contact? I think that was the point Kanata was making.
buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : Turnovers rule, win the turnover battle, win the game.
packerfanoutwest (26-Jan) : well, he was
TheKanataThrilla (26-Jan) : Eagles down by contact on the fumble....fuck you NFL
Mucky Tundra (26-Jan) : I think this games over

Mucky Tundra (26-Jan) : This game looks too big for Washington
packerfanoutwest (26-Jan) : that being said, The Ravens are the Browns
packerfanoutwest (26-Jan) : Browns, Dolphins have longest AFC Championship droughts
packerfanoutwest (26-Jan) : As of today, Cowboys have longest NFC Championship drought,
beast (26-Jan) : Someone pointed out, with Raiders hiring Carroll, the division games between Carroll and Jim Harbaugh are back on (who can whine more games)
beast (26-Jan) : I'm confused, Pete Carroll and Brian Schottenheimer? When Todd Monken, Joe Brady, Kellen Moore, Kliff Kingsbury and Zac Robinson are availab

Zero2Cool (24-Jan) : Raiders hired someone from the elderly home.
dfosterf (24-Jan) : I'm going with a combination of the two.
beast (24-Jan) : Either the Cowboys have no idea what they're doing, or they're targeting their former OC, currently the Eagles OC
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (23-Jan) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
