Someone. Anyone. This Packers defense needs a hero. These 2013 Packers are looking for their version of Wayne Simmons, their Sam Shields. That player very well could be the guy replacing Clay Matthews — the 6-foot-3, 260-pound Andy Mulumba.

I remember when the Packers signed Mulumba as an undrafted free agent. I posted, (maybe it was on the old CBS boards) that he was a true raw talent whose best asset at the time was his constant motor. He didn't start playing football until he was 17. Maybe he will find his groove this weekend and be a difference maker.

Had a sack against the Bears. My hopes aren't high. lol

Hope he can at least show up and keep the offense honest.

Doesn't get off blocks that well from what I see. Doesn't have a move he can execute particularly well. He will need to be a quicker learner this week! And Neal has GOT to play faster.

He could occasionally play DE in certain base defense situations. Although, at least he has stayed healthy this season, so perhaps losing the extra weight was a good thing. Either way, he has been incredibly underwhelming for the most part this season.

I also don't think I like the approach of forcing players into unnatural roles or position switches. I understand it can be necessary at times due to the numbers game and such, but I would rather the coaches have players focus on what players do the best, and maximize those abilities. Pulling a player away from what they instinctively do best and making them do other things usually isn't the best use of their talent. Stop trying to force square pegs in a round hole, as it were.
