The Green Bay Packers have lost a running back and activated one from their practice squad.

A league source tells PFT that Packers running back Kregg Lumpkin will miss the rest of the season. Lumpkin has been out since Week 3 with a hamstring injury, although he was listed as questionable on this weeks injury report. Its not clear what happened to set Lumpkin back.

To take Lumpkins place on the roster, the Packers have activated running back DeShawn Wynn from the practice squad. Last season Wynn showed promise, playing seven games for the Packers and starting four, and gaining 203 yards on 50 carries.

Lumpkin, a rookie out of Georgia, has played in two games, with one carry for 19 yards and three catches for 22 yards.

That stinks, I was hoping to see more of Lumpy this season.

On the other hand, maybe Wynn can add something to the running game. Maybe his stint on the practice squad has knocked some sense into him as well.

I was thinking about this the other day. Maybe DeShawn can give our run game a spark like he did last year.

I wonder if Lumpkin's injury is not really that bad, but they thought it was time to give Wynn a chance, and if he doesn't work out, they bring Lumpkin back next year. I still kind of hate this, though. I was hoping Lumpkin could contribute this year. He looks more promising to me than Wynn.

Wynn is a big bruising back. If he can get his head into the game, he'll be a bigtime back because he's got all the physical tools.

If Lumpkin was not responding to treatment, this move makes a ton of sense. Only 2 RB's active is playing with fire. Maybe Wynn's cutting and PS time has created the desire he seemed to lack from time to time.

Maybe this is also a statement that Mike McCarthy is getting readdy to commit to the run. That would really help if we could do one thing well. Our OL needs to create an identity if we are going to progress as a team.
