I'm a big fan of the 3-4. And with our line backers, i dont know why not try it? Seems like wasting talent..Espicially like you pointed out luigis. We are thin on the D Line.

You can't just decide to switch our ENTIRE defensive scheme partway through the season. They have spent the whole offseason using the 4-3 scheme, going to the 3-4 would make our D even worse. Too much confusion would occur.

And yes, I am aware that they did practice a little 3-4 during training camp but NOWHERE near the amount needed to use it this season.

Everyone needs to relax. This is a long season. There are teams every year that stinmk it up at the beginning of the season but end up making the playoffs. Actually the Packers started 1-4 a couple times and still made the playoffs.

You must have read someone elses thread. I dont see where I said, switch our ENTIRE scheme. I said "why not try it" That doesnt mean say screw the rest of what we do.

I think it's too early to bail on the D. Bigby, Harris, and Jenkins are hurt. We've been in the game until the end everytime much in thanks to our defense. Plus, Harrel will be getting in there soon and I prefer to think that he'll be a beast.

When you see MORE blitzing is when you know he no longer feels the front four can create the pressure the base package calls for. Even then you still have to go base more than not or the offense will start picking it up. You may not remember the Slowik days but it looked more like a track meet than a football game and it was always the other guy that got to the finish line first.

Agreed to this point.. blitzing is a sign that you need help in pass rush.. but Slowik went all the way to the other end of the spectrum. Blitz happy.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see 5 or 6 guys crashing every passing down.. but a little dose here an there would add to the opposing teams lines check down and read process.. make them read if a blitz is coming, make them think instead of just hunkering down into pass protection.

Donatell had a good blend for the most part.. brought pressure just enough to keep the oppositions heads on a swivel a bit. He put to much pressure on the backers at times, but he was more of a blend.

Fritz.. Fritz loved the game of chess I bet.. he actually attacked the opposing teams game plan making adjustments during the game often.

I don't see that confidence or maybe it is ability from Sanders at this point. Or it could be he is stubborn and tries to push a rock up hill in a rainstorm.

I used Slowik as a reference to the extreme when it comes to the blitz but the point is overblitzing won't work either. Your base is called the base for a reason and you better be able to be affective with that first.

Blitzing works better when you have already shown you can pressure from your base D and add more with a blitz and doesn't work nearly as well when your not getting any pressure from the front four.

I think you have to put the best set of player's on the field, no matter what.

If that means potentially changing a system this offseason and bringing in a couple of D-Linemen to make it work better, then so be it. LB is our strongest position on D and I think it's a sin to keep some of these guys on the sidelines.

I agree it'd be too hard to switch in the middle of the season, but it's something to think about in the offseason.

And what happened to the 2-4-5 formation used in pre-season? Everytime we ran it we generated some pressure. Basically, I'm just saying we have to find SOME way to pressure the quarterback or we will not be a successful team.

The thing is, blitzing can be very effective. Look at the Giants last year. It won them a SB.

Slowik's blitzes just sucked. You saw them coming and prepared for them accordingly.

I think calling Sanders stubborn is an understatement. It takes a house falling on his head for him to realize something's wrong.

The Giants didn't blitz that much, atleast from what I saw. They had a phenomenal front four that provided a devastating pass rush.

Yep, their defensive line was dominant throughout the latter half of the season, and they were even better in the playoffs. They and Eli Manning taking the step to the next level were the stories of the postseason last year.

Going to the 3-4 is a horrible idea.

Mainly because if we can't stop the run with 4 DL, how are they going to stop it with 3 DL?

If anything the Packers need to go to a 5-2.... That makes it easier to stop the run. But harder to cover but I think Barnett and Hawk can do it. At least a healthy Hawk could.

If that doesn't work maybe a 4-4 or 5-3...

Also the packers have been blitzing more than usually. The problem is that NO ONE is winning there one on one battles and getting pressure even with a blitz, and that making them looking worse than when they don't blitz so they stop blitzing.

Also has one one been able to break now the zone defense the DB are running ever since Harris and Bigby have been out? I haven't yet been able to figure out what type of zone it is yet... but it looks very weak over the middle.

Wouldnt having a 3-4 plug up the gaps in the O line if you had the line backers covering them?
