Sam Shields got to the NFL with his speed. Nothing has changed there. But the truth is, he has had to work on other parts of his game to stick around as an undrafted free agent and become a starting cornerback for the now sizable, now feisty Packers defense.

The Green Bay Packers have discussed a contract extension with CB Sam Shields and his representatives. Teams have until December 28 to extend a player's contract and have some of the money count against this year's salary cap. Shields is set to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He leads the team in passes defensed with 21 and is tied for the team lead in interceptions with three.


Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

Shields should be getting a better contract than Tramon has - he has way more upside.

Tramon has shown the past few weeks that he's not slowing down due to age. That could still happen at any time, but he is a guy who keeps in tip top shape all the time. His skill set could last into the mid 30s, conceivably. He could get a good deal based on incentives.

If we can get more of the Williams that we've had over the past few weeks, then finding a way to keep both wouldn't be a bad idea. Not to mention with Hyde, House and Hayward we may have the secondary coverage that we thought we'd be getting this season.
