I always find it interesting to learn where a team came from.

Atlanta Braves (1966–present)
Milwaukee Braves (1953 - 1965)
Boston Braves (1941 - 1952)
Boston Bees (1936 - 1940)
Boston Braves (1912 - 1935)
Boston Rustlers (1911)
Boston Doves (1907 - 1910)
Boston Beaneaters (1883 - 1906)
Boston Red Stockings (1871 - 1882)

Basically, the Atlanta Braves were the original Red Sox?

Boston Red Sox (1908–present)
Boston Americans (1901-1907)

I think the Chicago White Sox did. St Louis Browns. Probably a few others but I don't remember.

Interesting, I didn't know it was done to have legitimacy.

I'm old enough to remember when God damned Atlanta STOLE our Braves - and I've hated the Atlanta Braves ever since - which was kinda hard to do when they still had Eddie Matthews and Henry (not Hank) Aaron.

I also remember when we STOLE the Pilots from Seattle - justice after getting the Braves stolen from us.

Just to add something by way of coincidence...in the 1890's, Boston was the power house of the National League, under the direction of a manager named Frank Selee. After the Cubs fell on hard times around the turn of the century, they brought him in from Boston to build a winner on the north side, and he obliged by assembling the famous Tinker to Evers to Chance DP combo as well as bringing in 3 Finger Brown. (He was ill and was no longer manager by the time they won 4 pennants in 5 years, but it was his team).

Interesting that once again the Cubs have turned from a guy who rebuilt a Boston team to try to restore their fortunes.

I also read that the Cardinals were very close to moving to Milwaukee in the early 50's but the owner accepted a lesser off from the Busch family to keep them in St. Louis.

In the past (as the Western League) they had raided the NL for some of the players and they got a bidding war going between the leagues.

When the changed their name to the American League Ban wanted his teams to be in the same cities as the NL teams as much as possible. That is why St Louis, Philly, Chicago, NYC and Boston had 2 teams. Well NY 3 teams.

As far as StL moving it was kind of like the ChiSox ploy a few years ago when they threaten to move everywhere including Tampa- St Pete. If they were pushed they would have moved but they really didn't want to move. They knew they had a very good fan base even back then. The dominated Texas, Ark, Georgia, Oklahoma. Split Iowa, Ind, KY and TN with other teams.

dfosterf (2h) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (3h) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (3h) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (3h) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (3h) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (3h) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (3h) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (3h) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (4h) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (4h) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
    Zero2Cool (4h) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (4h) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (4h) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (4h) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (6h) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (6h) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (6h) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (22h) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
    Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.

dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation

Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.

Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
