The changes are subtle. So subtle that Green Bay Packers punter Tim Masthay doesn’t think anybody but he and his coaches would even notice each day during training camp.
The fourth-year pro has no competition this summer, but it doesn’t mean he isn’t trying to find ways to improve on a career that has become more decorated than anyone might have thought possible a few years ago.
“Working hard and trying to do better, it’s just ingrained in me,” Masthay said. “So, the motivation aspect is not an issue. But not having someone next to me does give me a little freedom to work on technique and alterations. Stuff that I’d be less likely to work on if there was a guy next to me, because I wouldn’t want to go out and have a less-stellar day because I was working on something.
