Key linemen missing Packers practice Thursday

The final Packers practice of the week started Thursday without some key pieces on the field.

On Thursday, second-year pro Greg Van Roten took Dietrich-Smith’s snaps with the No. 1 offense and would likely start at center if Dietrich-Smith can’t play in Saturday’s preseason game at St. Louis. That would go a long way toward determining whether Van Roten is a viable option as the backup center.

I find this interesting because both Dietrich-Smith and Newhouse are in contract years and will be FAs this coming offseason (I think).

Greg did ok last week, lets see what he can do. I don't mind sitting EDS for one week. Even Patrick Lewis did a good job last week. What about giving Lane Tayler a look at Center?
