My main criticism of Aaron Rodgers is holding onto the ball too long and not picking up the right protection for blitz's.

Both of which will come in time.

Just saying. It's easy to blame it on the quarterback -- but I'm wondering where our receivers (Jennings notwithstanding) are! And pass-blocking can't be Rodgers' fault.

I'm not saying he's blameless. You are right -- there are probably instances where he needs to get rid of it sooner. But there are also times that he's dealing with instant pressure. INSTANT. Whaddya do about that?

I have a hard time w/ the 'holding the ball too long' criticism, mostly because I can't see what he's been seeing on the field. I'm wondering if part of it is the receivers not getting clear in the abbreviated time the OL's been giving him.

Obviously, the answer is to throw the ball away if nothing's there instead of taking the sack, but he's young and wants to prove himself, so I can somewhat understand trying to hang in there for just little bit longer.

I dunno... I'm probably missing something when it comes to this part.

"Zero2Cool" wrote:

Agreed.

I don't think he holds on to the ball too long. I see him get in trouble and run for four yards. He shouldn't have to do this. The OL needs to give him more time, so his top tier WRs can finish their routes.

Donald Driver and Greg Jennings are among the best #1/#2 WRs in the NFL, and it really is a shame our OL can't give Aaron Rodgers more time. If we have to point fingers, it needs to be pointed at who really deserves the blame - our OL. If I were coaching this team, someone will be benched.

I fully believe in carrot as your goal, but if you have to use the stick, use the stick.

Packnic - I was one of the people criticizing the team, but it wasn't Aaron Rodgers I was criticizing. It was Mike McCarthy 's safe playcalling and our OL. Very few QBs are going to be spectacular with less than 3 seconds to throw. Aaron Rodgers isn't getting that. I don't blame Aaron Rodgers . All in all, he's still doing well. He's still completing a very high percentage of his passes and has 6 TDs vs 3 INTs. He's doing better than Peyton Manning right now.

Our problem is we need to get first downs. I don't see the spark that I saw last year. This year, it looks to me like we're playing not to lose instead of playing to win.

Look at the Jets. They're a bad team. But it looks like they're having fun out there. Their 2-2 has been a heck of a lot more fun to watch than our 2-2. The reason I'm comparing them is we're a BETTER team and I expect more from us than them. They're playing aggressive. 4th and 1 from their opponent's 40, they throw a pass into the end zone. TD! You know how fun that was to watch? 4th and 5, they go for it and what do you know? They throw another TD?

Geez. Look at us. 1st down. Run. Get 2 yards. 2nd and 8. Run. Get 3 yards. 3rd and 5. Pass. Aaron Rodgers gets sacked. Punt.

It's painful. I want to see us dominate other teams, like we should be doing. We were #2 in O last year and #6 in D. We have pretty much the same team.

Our O is keeping the D on the field too long. That's why our D is looking bad. Missing tackles? It's because they're exhausted. Geez, pick up a few first downs and let the D catch their breaths. You'll see a completely different D.

I don't necessarily disagree with what you're saying -- but so we're clear the Jets beat the Dolphins and the Cardinals. They didn't look so good against the Brady-less Patriots or the Chargers. The more "agressive" style didn't always pay off. Mangini calls for an onside kick in the second quarter when it was 17-14 Chargers. The result? San Diego recovers and takes the 10 point lead five plays later.

Mangenius strikes again! Sorry if I sound bitter -- it's mostly about Mangini being overrated. Aggression can be a good thing. I'd agree that McCarthy needs to let this offense do it's thing -- but it's hard to let 'em loose so to speak when they can't get the simple things done.

lol that has to be the first, someone saying I'm too hard on the QB as most say I'm too bias favoring the QB. I like it!

You can't make that judge without seeing the whole field and even THEN I can't fully accurately make that because I don't know the routes being called specifically.

What I see is check downs covered and Aaron sitting back waiting. If options are covered that means there's an opening somewhere to run for yards, usually.

I do watch every game and I do make a video of the game so I often replay the same play over and over again to find out what happened and why. Obviously I am not 100% right on any of it because, I don't know the play called or the routes to be ran. Hell, it could be Jennings running a 15 yard slant and Rodgers is waiting for him to break but Jennings doesnt hit his slant until yard 18 and that makes him hold the ball longer.

There are MANY things that go into it, BUT from what I can see, he's holding the ball too long for whatever reason. You just can't ask your OL to protect you that long. No OL will ever be able to do that down in and down out throughout a game or a season. You have to find your hot read on blitz's and check downs. If all options removed, scramble or throw it away.

Above everything else, NO INT and NO LOSS OF YARDS.

The Jets weren't very aggressive against the Pats. That goal line decision to run three times up the middle and settle for a FG was awful. The onside kick though in SD...I cringed at that. You're right, aggressive doesn't pay off when it turns into recklessness.

The thing is, we're a better team than the Jets. We can get away with being more aggressive, while the Jets kind of have to be aggressive to beat just about anyone. Let's be real here, we're a 13-3 team, the Jets are 4-12. Our O was #2 last year, theirs, I'll have to lookup but I'm sure it wasn't that good.

We have the skills to dominate teams, to overrun their Ds. We don't. We're not getting the first downs, and Mike McCarthy needs to start thinking like he was in '07.

When I'm saying he's holding the ball to long, I don't mean every single play. If that was the perceived notion, my mistake. It's just one of the things I've noticed with him.

Seeing as how I'm a former HB, not QB, I'm happy to defer to your call on this. It's one of those things I've never understood about the position, since it seems like there are so many moving parts to account for.

But you know running backs -- we played that position because we don't so much think, and then we get hit in the head a majillion times, which doesn't so much help with the thinking. :blackeye:

Zero - You may be right. I'm just saying what I was saying because I remember Lynn Dickey complaining about a specific time he wanted in the pocket to complete a pass and if he wasn't getting that...
