This line reminds me of people who believe everything of note is bled with conspiracy.

Every now and then I watch documentaries of other countries and have the girls watch it with me. They have the same questions as they do when watching movies that take place in other countries. "That's not real, right daddy?" They are surprised how little people can do and they were visibly disturbed watching a documentary on North Korea.

Afterwards I usually chime in with something similar to "Glad to be an American, huh?". Every time, it's a sharp nod indicating yes. And then I tell them that just because we have it better than most, doesn't mean we have to be okay with getting screwed over.

I prefer more freedom than safety. If we educate properly, I think we will be more safe than the government sanctions/rules/whatever could make us.

Your last paragraph, though, kinda negates all of that - potentially anyway, because it could all be gone in the blink of an eye, and there's not a thing you could do about it - if some kind of terrorist act occurred. Far fetched? Thankfully yes, but NOT impossible, especially if we let our guard down. The relevant question is: Exactly what freedoms that we cherish so much are we giving up or even lessening in order to protect the ones we love? My answer is virtually none - nothing - and I have challenged all of you who say "freedom first" to say what you think you would have to give up to have the Patriot Act, the TSA, whatever other little nuisances are there to protect us, and NOBODY has been able to cite anything! Oh yeah, a few lines, potentially some unwanted touching - that really ain't gonna happen in your wildest nightmares, etc. - a terrorist bomb in the airport is literally more likely than that.

I thought I would have issues with people snooping threw my emails, or phone calls, or what have you, but I really couldn't seem to careless. It's not as if those whom are stifling through actually know me on a daily basis for anything I say to be used against me in any shape or form.

I do worry it might get out of hand, like that boy who said something about shooting kids on Facebook and now he's in jail. Granted, I don't know all of the details so I'm quite ignorant on the topic, but I don't feel saying some words followed with "lol jk" merits jail time.

If I was the Red Chinese (ooooh I hope they don't read this hahahaha), I'd flood email addresses with a hundred times more SPAM than now - maybe a thousand times more, until the NSA had to fill up the whole state of Utah with computer storage.
