That article does a terrible job of explaining his restructure. It tried to get to fancy by talking about Dead Money which has absolutely nothing to do with the restructure. What the dead money means, is what would the cap hit be if Hawk was cut today. Before the restructure, the cap hit to cut him would have been 4.8mil, add the guaranteed and it goes to 7. The article makes it sound like they just hid money which isn't the case.

Hawk took a 28% pay cut plain and simple. And gets a guarantee for part because of his willingness to work with them.

Hawk took a pay cut on his base salary in 2013,2014,2015, he still receives ALL of the GUARANTEED money from the original contract.

Basically he took a 1.3 mil. pay cut for the year 2013.

The cuts he took in 2014 and 2015 are probably MOOT(right Zero?), since The Packers will either cut him, trade him, or extend his contract after the 2013 season.

Cutting him is probably what will happen, if they do this after the 2013 season he will still count 3.2mil(the rest of his original signing bonus) against the 2014 cap.(dead money)

This is the business side of things, these contracts are all about THE GUARANTEED MONEY, the rest is just window dressing after the 1st couple of years.

Players don't have to restructure, looks like A.J. wanted at least 1 more year in Green Bay.
