My prediction / [twocents] :
Unless Crosby completely melts down and self destructs he isn't going anywhere. Tavecchio is insurance in case Mason Crosby turns into Brett Conway. 😢
The $ savings are not as much as you would think when you look at the salary cap implications. The Packers would incur a $1,800,000 salary cap hit if they cut Crosby this year. They also would have to pay Tavecchio or any replacement at least $405,000. Then you would save Crosby's base salary of $2,400,000. (I believe the remainder of his $3,150,000 salary cap figure has already been paid to him.)
The difference is only $195,000. If both kickers are performing well I would spend the extra $195,000 for a known quantity over a rookie who might have never seen snow before.
(I realize that if the cut occurs after June 1 that some of the cap hit rolls into next year. But the cap space is needed next year rather than this year anyway.)
Am I missing anything? Can anybody shoot holes in this argument? 🤔
