For the first time since his rookie season, Packers kicker Mason Crosby probably will have some competition in training camp.

He may be fortunate it's this year and wasn't last year. I like Crosby and hope he can get back into a groove. His leg strength is really nice to have. But I wonder sometimes if part of the reason for his problems were the 55-60+ field goals they had him attempt.

That guy needs some competition. Wow, did he suck last season... That's not a question.

I like him fine, and seems a great athlete with an interesting family history and all, but, the guy has to perform with some regularity. His contract is relatively high, and if a better K comes along and steals his job, so be it.

Crosby is the NFL's 6th highest paid K ($2.4M), right behind Robbie Gould, who makes $25K more per year, and, like, 80% more FGs.

Seeing a Kicker's salary makes me pine even more for players to paid a base salary based on their position. It increases with playing time/snaps. Performance and team achievements. It would absolved all damn contract holdout crap and salary cap issues.

Dude has been often called out and questioned. And justifiably so.

But he does kick in extremely difficult conditions. AND, even that year they messed with his holder, he didn't bitch or blame anyone else. He took it like a man. So I respect that they stood behind him even when he was struggling.

Still it's good to see them pushing him.

I honestly think what got into his head this year was when they were making him kick 60 yarders in on Family Night. Do NOT mess with your kicker's mind.

no shock that he will have competition. He should compete every year.

that said I figure he will get back on track and do just fine. The only question is will he be doing this for GB or some other team.
