Sorry but anyone who thinks Greg Jennings doesn't want to be a Packer should be drug tested. 😣

ummm Jennings paired with Megatron could be very scary. Jennings gets his money and also gets to play in front of his hometown fans, it would be a good fit for the Lions and bad for the rest of our division.
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

He could stay for 5 million/yr, and we would have him, jones, nelson and cobb and Finley for less than Calvin alone.

If it's Finley or Greg for one more year. Cut Finley and franchise Greg for one more season. With the big 3 needing extensions very soon, you have to make them the priority given their respective positions. We've still got pretty good receiver depth and the draft to replace guys like Jennings in the long term.

Take 1 more year to see if Finley has something. (I honestly think this guy can only get better, and his words off the field are so blown out of proportion.) Maybe we'll restructure his contract to resign Jennings? He did say he wanted to be a packer for life. Serious or not seriously.

Then try to work out a deal next offseason for Greg.

That's what I wouldn't mind seeing.

If he does want to stay a Packer he'll take less money. The guy has 50 TD's to his name here in Green Bay. That's fucking impressive if you ask me. Can't let that go.

Here is the thing.. there are all types of options and influences on this deal, most notably is the change in the salary cap allocation of contract signed late in the year (and last for the matter). It changed.. so reinking veterans late in the season for salary cap advantages is less advantageous than in past years for the club.

So the lack of talks during this season has a different meaning from years past... basically the 7 million the Packers have in cap room this season is pushed forward to next season.

So, why push to get a contract done now.. we are not going to lose the cap room. So get through the season and start looking at the options after the season. There are still variables in play.

Basically, the Packers have no incentive to talk contract during the season, there is no competitive advantage to it. If Jennings or someone else suffers a career threatening injury, why risk big money now. Deal with it in the offseason.

I think Greg is reading into this the wrong way... it is just business.

That's really all he's talking about. It's just so the NFL can make headlines. The Packers aren't worried about this stuff right now. His agent will work it out, and hopefully he'll be in a green and gold uniform next year.

Even a Lions team with CJ and GJ wouldn't beat the Packers unless the Packers have one of their "bad days." Plus all that money tied up in two WRs would have to hurt them elsewhere, eventually.

I don't hear a lot of talk about how we'll probably have to match an offer sheet for sammy shields this offseason

The salary cap is going to stagnate for a few years, because the Players Union negotiated a front loaded deal, to make it seem like they did better than they really did. Around '15 iirc it exands considerably. So they might give Jennings a back laden contract or something like that.

This cap scenario is one good reason to ditch Finley. Depending upon how Quarless is coming back and the development of DJ Williams (and Ryan Taylor.)

If Jennings leaves, I suspect he'll end up in Miami with Philbin.

I've always said I thought James Jones could be a #1 guy, and we've seen that this year. And I think Cobb is way more explosive than JJ.

Still, we're also losing DD, so Ted will have to draft for the position.

I could see them franchising Jennings, but if they did that, they would have to pay him top 5% money at the position, no? They could also franchise him and trade him.

Let's see what Greg does in the playoffs.

dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
