I seem to be staying in this "create poll" mood.
(Note: this one does *not* require you to be or claim to be a Christian to have a preference. IMO. Hence "other" as an option, as well.)
My preferences.
4. Luke. He sounds too much like a college professor. Someone more grounded in the church can probably explain why he gets so much more attention at certain times of the year. For me, though, this is the one that, more often than not, is still "have to read" rather than "like to read".
3. Mark. Everyman's Gospel, I guess. Or, for a lot of people, the one they start with. Again, I'm not grounded enough to know why. But it's good.
2. John. The mystic. This is the one I came to first, probably because I've always been drawn to the mystical/contemplative sort of life. I'm not a fan of the ivory towers of academe as presently constituted, but I love the idea of being one with the universe through contemplation and prayer and "WTF does this mean, anyway?"
1. Matthew. The deeper I get into things, the more I come back to this one. More sermon on the Mount, less Christmas tada-tada. Chapters 6 and 7. The Great Commandment. IMO if I had to give up everything but one book in the Bible, or memorize one book in the manner of Fahrenheit 451, this would be the one I would go for.
That's me. What about you?
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
