Heading to work they said Johnny Jolly has applied for reinstatement. Should the Packers give him a tryout if reinstated? Does Jolly's talent merit a chance with the Packers and would there be a spot for him over a potential DL?

Sure. Probably a waste of time, but we have nothing to lose and we look like good guys in the process. I liked him on the field - it would be nice to get some of that "push" back.

If he gets reinstated.. I still believe that he is held under the Packers rights as he signed a deal and never was able to fulfill that contract.

http://www.packershome.com/tabid/63/g/posts/t/14594/Johnny-Jolly-released-from-jail.aspx

Last transaction by the Packers on Jolly ... (2010)

07/16/2010 DE Johnny Jolly suspended indefinitely by NFL
06/15/2010 DE Johnny Jolly signed

Note no release... so by definition, I would believe we retain those rights.

So if reinstated.. I would presume that the first decision would be retain or not.. I would guess a workout would be part of that decision.

So Yes. I would guess.

If he's reinstated the Packers can simply release him, or bring him to camp and try him out. So, regardless of the Packers owning his rights, should they give him a try out or just release him if he's indeed reinstated? I would suspect the Packers would at least take a look at him. I haven't heard anything that I recall about the shape he's in so I'm thinking they'd give him a physical, fail and release.

IF he gets reinstated, I'd say bring him in to camp and see what he's got left in the tank. He'd be cheap and he has played in Capers 3-4 and had some decent success before his suspension. At worst, you could cut him at the end of camp and be no worse off than before.

With Hargrove and Neal both facing lengthy suspensions, the more potential bodies you can throw against the wall and see what sticks in camp to fill in that time, the better you're off. The defensive line can't get much worse than it was a year ago.

Give him a shot. Dude was an idiot, but he never killed anyone. No one was left paralyzed or permanently harmed in his wake.

Dude had an addiction. Give him a shot at redemption, and potentially a reason to stay sober.

Besides, we got 90 roster spots. See what he can do in training camp.

Jolly was good when he played. Does he still have it? Let 🇲🇲 and his people decide.

PFT has finally chimed in.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/06/19/report-johnny-jolly-applies-for-reinstatement/

I am dedicated to really make a change in my life and come back and be a positive role model. I think I have a great shot at going back to those guys. They’re a great organization. The coaches are very good, the players are good. I know they have supported me 100 percent.

I want to say that would be a dream come true, but I made it in the NFL before. So, I would say it would be like another dream. It would be a journey and going back to do the things I love and showing everybody you can make mistakes but it’s the way you correct the things you’ve done wrong. I want to make the Packers look good if they want to take me back or not.

Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson was unavailable today, according to a team spokesman who said the organization likely would continue its policy of not commenting any matters related to suspended defensive lineman Johnny Jolly.
