Grant’s agent, Alan Herman, told the Green Bay Press-Gazette that Grant that there’s a good chance another team will sign Grant before next week’s NFL draft.

I've talk shit about Grant on this board, but he's a great guy and a very good player. Sad to see him go, but I feel very good about our RBs for the first time in many years.

Won't ever forget the run he had in 2007. Was a pretty good team player, but he was just too expensive for the production he was giving us. A lot of veteran RB's are still unemplyed, and the Packers have Starks, Saine, and Green already on the roster. Wouldn't shock me if they took another RB too in the draft.

too expensive for the production? don't quite follow that statement

I think this is more posturing from his agent to get a deal done than anything else. At least, that was my first thought reading his comments.

Packers have James Starks, Brandon Saine and Alex Green so far. I think its safe to say a few undrafted free agents are signed and one stashed on practice squad. I think Ryan Grant should be signed on a decent contract an allowed to compete.

If Grant does sign elsewhere before the draft, do people here that will significantly increase the probability of the Packers going after a running back in the first three rounds, maybe even trying to get the Boise State guy in round 1?

Personally, I will be a bit bummed if Grant goes -- I'd rather have him starting or platooning with Starks than rely on Starks full time. OTOH, even if he does go, I don't want anything above a 4th going to a RB. (The only exception might be Martin if he falls to the late second, but that isn't going to happen.)

Technically, Ryan Grant wouldn't be leaving as he's not even signed. 😛

Bummed to see him go as I was a big Ryan Grant fan, but he doesn't fit our style of O. He still has burst and is one of the harder RBs in the NFL to catch in the open field. But he's not a good blocker and not a good receiver.

I don't see us taking a RB early, but I see us taking an all-purpose RB. I think what was missing from our O last year was a Brandon Jackson. The guy picked up blockers and could catch passes. We got Starks to carry the load and do the heavy lifting. Not sure how the other 2 on our roster will turn out, but hopefully one of them could be our 3rd down back.

I'm guessing we run by committee in 2012. The NFL is evolving away from every down RBs, which is a good thing actually.

I wouldn't expect a RB in the first 3 rounds myself. Alex Green I read was good at receiving out of the backfield. I can't verify that without having seen it myself.

I am still going with my prediction that we draft James in the 2nd round
Just Imagine this for the next 6-9 years. What a ride it will be 🙂 (PS, Zero should charge for this)

I have know idea why we would even draft a RB, when you consider the three we have plus Kuhn. If anything we should get power fullback.

Speaking of flamboyant WR's... two 49ers fans here are tired of him already ... him being of course Michael "the awesome one" Crabtree.

I don't know why the Packers would draft a RB in a weak draft class in the 2nd round. Unless he can play DE or OLB lol
