Agreed.. that was a pleasure to watch that game.. some say it was boring until the last couple minutes.. I strongly disagree.. to me, the was one of the best games I watched this season, hands down.

And you could see that it was drawing a direct effect on the Saints offense.. they were looking to get hit. One of the few times we seen that all season.

The defenses will adjust.. but with the rule book and fines directly opposing them.. how much is the question.

IMO.. this is the beginning of a less physical league, but IMO, backassward in thinking.

If they allow more hand checking and contact from the defenders in the passing game, it will prevent players from reaching full speed, thus reducing the impact of hits and thus making the game safer.

But instead, because the NFL wants an offensively oriented game, they actually expose players on both sides of the ball to hits with greater impacts.

I personally am a bit on the fence about things - I like the idea about player safety like the not hitting a defensless receiver or not hitting a qb in the head - BUT ... 'touching a qbs helmet or these players falling down and trying to try penalties (they should get one themselves for being losers) - I know personally Id prefer a bit more bump and run man to man coverage for the secondary; they this almost no hands off type of thing they are forced to play now.

Heck you remember reggie white he used to slap the OL guys when he went in to daze them ...

David 'Deacon' Jones was the first to do the OL head slap and it was deemed illegal in the 70's. Reggie White did the hump move, which he got from Howie Long, but perfected it.

I never got to see Jones play live, but like his highlights and his quotes... here's one on why he did the headslap.

To give myself an initial headstart on the pass rush, in other words a extra step. Because anytime you go upside a man's head, or woman, they may have a tendency to blink they eyes or close they eyes. And that's all I needed.

Well, it pains me to admit that I was wrong, but I thought that we'd be the 2nd team in 3 years to win a SB with this formula:
1) superior offensive firepower,
2) D that depends almost entirely on takeaways to win

It didn't happen. The '09 Saints were a fluke, and not a new rule. So it's back to the old cliche "defense wins championships."

Dammit.

Oh well though. We were #2 in '10. We can be elite again in '12 with a few tweaks.

I'm not freaking out about this team and not saying it's the end of the world by any means. We got a perennial playoff team. You know it. I know it. If you're gonna win SBs (multiple), the most important thing to have is a perennial playoff team.

We're not that far off. Someone to provide pressure up the middle, a better tackling LB (CM3 and Bishop are wonderful, it's the others), and a more solid DB and our D is completely different. I'd also call for firing Dom and replacing him with a guy who understands that today's NFL is about passing and you gotta pressure the opposing QB if you want to win games. Rushing 3 people shouldn't even be in the defensive playbook.

When we got pressure on Eli, magical things happened for the D. When we gave him 5+ seconds, he killed us.

And we have to do something about the drops. I seriously don't care if Finley is gone in the offseason. Drops kill drives.

What about the other guys who keep dropping the ball on 3rd down stalling the drive? Oh yeah, they aren't vocal so you don't bitch about them.

I think after Finley gets his contract, he won't be trying so hard to impress and he'll have his good hands back. Then again, he could be trying extra hard to prove he deserved the contract and that could backfire. So yeah, if he's back, fine, if not, I'm cool with Andrew Quarless and the gang picking up the slack.

Finley was the guy who dropped the ball the most. And if I remember correctly, he dropped the most first downs.

I didn't say he was responsible for all 7 drops. I'm talking about this entire season.

But why are you arguing over something we agree on? That's what I've been saying. I'm indifferent if he's back or not.
