Looks like there's a huge matchup this issue with Newhouse going up against Jared Allen.   Personally, I think he'll be fine. Newhouse is NOT Darryn Colledge (thank god.) Obviously, they'll be using TEs to help Newhouse, at least until Newhouse shows he can get it done without assistance. But I think he'll get the job done perfectly fine. Allen's on fire this year, and he might get a sack or two, but he's not gonna do too much damage.
If we could run screens effectively, it would help slow Allen down, but I have yet to see that happen. Maybe they'll get Alex Green into the mix. I do see them running more toward Allen with Newhouse in there.
Jared Allen may be able to pad his stats against backups and guards, but Newhouse is a legit tackle in the NFL.

I hope you're right. Allen can be a real terror, especially on that artificial turf. I tend to agree that Newhouse will do fine. It will be important for him not to let the crowd noise bother him.

I'd love to see a few screen passes, but I've learned to stop holding my breath waiting for those. That's become a rare play for the Packers, maybe just because there are other plays that they can do better, and a team can only master so many plays in practice.

From what I can remember...J'Marcus Webb did alright against Allen last Sunday night. I don't know why he did or what the Bears did, but it worked for the most part.

With that being said, I have faith in Newhouse to do alright if a pud like Webb can do what he did. Add in a little chip blocking from our awesome chip blocking tight ends (Williams and Crabtree) and Rodgers will be safe and sound.

Not worried one bit about Bulaga.

I am sure Allen will get a sack or two and there will be much wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth in the chat room, but it wouldn't surprise me if, with Clifton on the bench, the number of false starts drops below average for Packer games at the Metrodome.

With that said, I think Newhouse will play admirably and the damage from Allen will be negligible. Aside from the TEs helping don't forget both Grant and Starks play physical in their chips before leaking into their routes.

I'm good with no help unless it's needed. Give players a chance to do their job and handle their responsibility.

I'm actually very excited to see this matchup, Newhouse has a very good opportunity to show that he can be a quality LT in the NFL. Not that I think he hasn't shown the ability to play, but this will be a good test against elite competition.
