Great win, as any win against Da Bearce is a great win. But what was with the holding call on that punt near the end? Did they miscall the number or just make that one up? 21 certainly wasn't holding anyone...

I'm less bothered by Peprah's performance than I am with the defensive performance generally.

I wonder whether Aikman (of all people) was on to something when he pointed his finger at the linebackers. There were far too many *big* open areas in the middle range of 8-15 yards deep. I'm not sophisticated enough to know who has responsibility for what in an offense as complicated as the Packers, but when I see the mid-range middle as open as it was with some regularity today, I think it's more than Peprah in his first start at strong safety.

I'm really not sure what to think of this pass-defense. While the amount of yards we have given up should not be dismissed, I'm not sure it is anything to panic, or even excessively worry, about. There are not any glaring blown coverages, and more importantly the fact that teams are passing so much at the expense of the run is when Capers' scheme can be utilized to its full extent.

In other words, as long as our run D holds, I have to think the pass-D issues are nothing overly problematic. Hell, even J. Bush seemed to be in position to make plays on the ball. Outside of Peprah (on 3 pr 4 different occasions), I can't recall anyone giving up big yardage on their coverages.

Look who we've gone up against. Brees, Newton, Cutler. Cutler may suck, but Martz never runs the ball much. These are all mondo passing offenses.

I can't wait for Zombo and So'oto to get healthy. Hopefully one of them can bring something at that ROLB spot. Walden is definitely the weak link on defense. He gets no pressure on most of his pass rushes unless someone leaves him unblocked. On top of that he makes that idiotic penalty and cancelled out Tramons INT.

Matthews hit Cutler just before Walden arrived, knocking him down and forcing Walden's contact to be too high. It looked like Walden actually tried to hold up, but he couldn't help hitting Cutler's helmet. The officials are going to call that penalty every time.

With Collins out I was sure Chicago would try more passes to their TEs. GB seemed to struggle with that last year and I thought they would test the Packers a little more than they did.

beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
