I predict the Lions in the playoffs this year and I see them giving us a run for the division. I know I will be called a hater and such but c'mon they beat us once last year and actually out played us in the other game but we still found a way to win. So beware of the loveable Lions and I hope they win the division because that way we will have a chip on our shoulder in the playoffs and not have big heads.

They had the same defensive front last year and lost 10 games. I know everyone wants the Lions to do well, just like every year people think the Texans will make the playoffs. Its going to be the same story for the Lions.

I just reviewed Suh's hits on Andy Dalton and Jake Delhomme from last year, plus the forearm shot to Baby Vajajay. I guarantee you boys will be hating on the Lions soon enough.

But it is about time they put something together. They've been drafted in the top 10 of every round for the last 10 years. I know Millen was dumbass, but he had to have picked something up.

And they're doing quite a job.

I still don't think that they have the offensive line or the back seven on defense to be a serious contender, but they're getting closer. I think they'll finish around .500 this year. Stafford health will have a lot to do with the outcome of this season. If he stays healthy, they could be able to go over .500.

I would be delighted to see the Lions in second place this year, because that would virtually guarantee that neither the Bears nor the Vikings will be in the playoffs.

Simply put.. they had and I believe still have concerns in the secondary, albeit I think it is greatly improved from last year.

A couple of numbers to digest.

They finished 19th in overall defense, and 16th in passing.. even when finishing 6th in sacks.

How did they finish that poorly on defense with that pass rush.. they allowed the opposition to complete 63.7% of their passes... 7 points higher than say a Packer team that finish with only 3 more sacks. They improved that secondary.. which will trickle down to the defensive front.

As I stated.. and you chopped out in quote, this defense will keep them in just about every game.. if the offense (notably Stafford) can stay healthy.. yes.. I have little doubt they finish at worst .500.

I give two pinches what they did this past weekend.. They finished last season with 4 wins.. two of them over teams that won double digit games.

Now add to that, I believe one of the biggest slides from last season to this season will be the Bears.. I believe that we will see last season exposed a bit for what it was.. a team that overachieved and caught a number of breaks throughout the season. That offensive line will have Cutler shelled up early in games and often..

The Vikings... I think they found the right coach.. but I think it is going to take a couple year for that team to recover from a missed opportunity window they had.. aging team with high dollar players in decline. I think they are going to have a rough season.

And the Lions took it to us on their turf last season.. even with Rodgers they shut us down.

Now sprinkle in a last place schedule... I think the sum total is a team that wins as many as it loses and maybe even better than that.

The Lions will contend for the first time in a very long time. Where is Matt Millen when you need him?

If Matthew Harrell plays 16 games this season I will get a tattoo of the Lions logo on my ass.

On to topic.. why the Lions will finish above .500 and 2nd in the division.. possibly.

More reasons to believe that the Lions may take hold of second place in the division.. some Bears players  are becoming upset with the GM.

In addressing his own dissatisfaction, Briggs made a point to stress Matt Forte and Chris Harris also deserved contract extensions. As only a teammate as popular as Briggs could, he made a public contract demand considered out-of-touch around Chicago come across as an unselfish act in the locker room. He took one for the team.

It still bugs some players, for example, that the Bears were quick to cut defensive tackle Tommie Harris for not living up to his contract but bristle when guys seek new deals after outperforming theirs.

One player has asked me why I haven't criticized the Bears for not trying harder to keep free-agent free safety Danieal Manning, now a Texan, given they have ample salary-cap space and an inexperienced replacement in Major Wright. The trade of tight end Greg Olsen, who wanted a new contract too, remains curious to some. And you don't have to go far down the roster to find a Bears player still befuddled Angelo didn't re-sign center Olin Kreutz.

But the kicker that probably stirs the pot.

The irony: The Bears have proven in recent years with long-term, lucrative deals for Julius Peppers and Jay Cutler — even Charles Tillman and Devin Hester — that they will dig deep when necessary. The reality is they have only their own players to blame for creating a different perception.

So again.. the Bears have a first place schedule, an offensive line that still is unsettled and porous, and some good old fashion ill will brewing. The Bears might be the ones lucky to finish .500.

BTW.. they open up with the Falcons, Saints and Packers.. 0-3 will only fan those flames.

dfosterf (2-Jan) : Hats off to the Beast
dfosterf (2-Jan) : I'm at 71.76% in pick 'em. 2nd place. Beast is at a flat 75% 9 games ahead. That 75% has got to be unprecedented this late in the season

Zero2Cool (2-Jan) : BTW, not serious.
Zero2Cool (2-Jan) : You don't care about it either!!!!

Mucky Tundra (2-Jan) : outside of Texas-Arizona St, it's been a snoozefest

Zero2Cool (30-Dec) : Matt Lafleur on if Jaire will play again this season. "Yeah I don't know... he's been dealing with swelling."
Mucky Tundra (30-Dec) : After the way they played for most of the game yesterday, I don't see how you can sit anyone for the whole game
Zero2Cool (30-Dec) : I'd say play everyone. Going into playoffs at 7th seed on two game lose streak - yucky
Zero2Cool (30-Dec) : Do the Packers have any best players?
beast (30-Dec) : Play or Rest*
beast (30-Dec) : Should the Packers play or free their best players vs the Bears?
Zero2Cool (30-Dec) : Packers should be 3 - 2 in the Division. Bonkers being swept by both Lions and Vikings. yikes
go.pack.go. (30-Dec) : All crazy stuff…and good point beast
beast (30-Dec) : Packers should be 0-5 in the division, can't say I saw that coming, even 1-4
Zero2Cool (30-Dec) : Sam Darnold 35 TD's ... another one
Zero2Cool (30-Dec) : Baker Mayfield, 39 TD's ... can't say I saw that one
Zero2Cool (30-Dec) : No matter who is playing as 7th, I think we want them to win. Get rid of 2nd seed haha
go.pack.go. (30-Dec) : That would be dhazer who was rooting for Minnesota
beast (30-Dec) : Well, Commanders are currently the 6th seed and Packers the 7th
beast (30-Dec) : Who was it in Chat, that wanted the Vikings to win (because Lions fans upset them) because Packers could not lose the 6th seed?
beast (30-Dec) : If Falcons win, Packers stay as the 6th seed and Falcons lead the NFCS, if they lose, Commanders 6th and Bucs take NFCS lead
beast (30-Dec) : Win or Loss, the NFCS is going down to week 18
Mucky Tundra (30-Dec) : if the Falcons win, how does that affect the overall NFC playoff picture? Does it mean that the NFC South comes down to week 18?
beast (30-Dec) : If Commanders win, the Packers drop to the 7th seed
beast (29-Dec) : Taylor still at it!
