Things are starting to fall for the Green Bay Packers' offensive line exactly the way they did a year ago.
And that's not a bad thing.
For the second straight year, the only job up for grabs is left guard and for the second straight year the team's No. 1 draft pick is competing for a starting job at a position he didn't play in college.
Last year, it was Iowa left tackle Bryan Bulaga trying to make the transition inside and this year it's Mississippi State left tackle Derek Sherrod. Last year, it was after the first exhibition game that Daryn Colledge started getting the majority of snaps over Bulaga and on Monday veteran T.J. Lang got them over Sherrod.
McCarthy wasn't saying whether one guy was ahead of the other, but Lang had a better first game.
"T.J. probably graded out a little better than Derek," McCarthy said of the Packers' 27-17 loss to Cleveland in the preseason opener Saturday night. "We're not making a decision today. It's important to get those guys as many reps as possible."
