It's been mentioned a time or two that the 49ers bought Super Bowl back in '94. How so? I can't remember any big name signings back them or trades. I think that was the year they had Deion Sanders, right? Who else am I missing?

From the article:

In 1994, the team spent large amounts of money on the addition of several star free agents from other teams, including Ken Norton, Jr., Gary Plummer, Rickey Jackson, and Deion Sanders.

Gary Plummer wasn't as big of an impact player, but he was a tackling machine. 800 tackles with the Chargers over 8 years. 1029 over 11.

Deion Sanders doesn't really need any further explaining, really.

The biggest thing that the 49ers and Eagles have in common, though, is that they were both very close to being a SB team, already. This is not like the Raiders or Redskins going out and trying to convert a 6-10 team into a Super Bowl champion in one year, this is adding the final pieces to a very strong team. It's quite scary.

I'm not saying those players weren't good in their time, I'm saying they were past their prime except Deion Sanders and maybe Norton.

I guess I just don't see how it can be said the 49ers bought the Super Bowl, but that's because I don't remember it.

Can't really blame the Niners then though. They had to get Steve Young SOMETHING.

I dunno maybe those players on the 49ers were 30/31 too? I dunno. I just don't see the 49ers having bought the Super Bowl. They didn't go Yankee's on it.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.

Mucky Tundra (25-Jun) : And then he signs with Cleveland in the offseason
