Stopping another team's running game should be considerably less of a priority than stopping another team's passing game. Any team that doesn't see that is foolish and will not go very far in the NFL.

This is 2011. Not 1962. The NFL wants high scoring games. They've adjusted the rules to make passing easy.

Take advantage of it. Or watch the Playoffs from home.

We won the SB last year with the 24th ranked rushing O. Did you hear that Vikesrule? :-"

If you want to win another SB, stop the opponent's passing game. That's what Dom will do in 2011. Dom understands this. We were 18th against the run but 5th against the pass. Dom doesn't care if they rack up a lot of yards rushing on us. So what? They'll eventually have to punt and we get the ball and will score with our prolific passing O.

That's the formula for winning games.

Back to McNabb - a little tidbit. He's got a better Playoff record than Peyton Manning. Just sayin'.

I don't get the McNabb hate.

For me.. it isn't really about being passing oriented or run oriented on offense.. it is providing enough balance to keep the defense balanced and prevent them from "cheating" prior to and at the snap.

We won in 2010 with a pass heavy approach, but Rodgers got the living snot beat out of him again.. tipping the defense by being imbalanced in either direction assists the defense.

Last season, being pass heavy we allowed the defense to focus on pass rush off the snap, putting additional pressure on the oline and getting Rodgers hit.. if you want our elite QB to last, you balance up the offense and assist the protection by keeping the defense paused by having to at the very least looking for the run.. split second or two.. but enough to reduce the number of hits the QB has to endure.

I concur that the rules of the game are tilted towards the pass.. and you can win with a strong passing game.

But, in my mind, there is more to the game and the residual effects of being imbalanced.

I will guarantee that the Packers will do everything they can to establish a run game to provide what is described above and for the reason stated above. And if we can, we become the dominate team over the course of the season that we can be.. not the somewhat inconsistent one of last season. Albeit, injuries didn't help in the consistency department.

Can they win without it.. absolutely.. but can they continue to risk the health of their superstar QB is the question one needs to ask?

BTW.. I don't hate McNabb. But I have watched enough of him and his play in the crunch to form an opinion that he is "soft" and plays down when the pressure is on him mentally.

I think he is a good QB overall.. I think he has more talent that he has never tapped and that what I have seen is a guy that is working less and less as the years past.

I also think that he plays the camera very well, comes off as more of a team player than his actual ego allows.

That said, I think he is an outstanding person and diplomat for the game.

A little surprised this even needs to be said, but some of us want to pound our point so hard that we forget to actually think more in depth of what it means when a coach, player or whomever says they want to stop the run to make the team one dimensional.

That is not a lie and if you think it is, well, I'll be nice.

You want a team to be one dimensional, that's obvious. You want to stop the run so you can bite the head off the snake, the QB. We all know that passing is what wins games and I think we agree on that. But if you let a team run on you, they will also be able to pass on you and play action pass your ass to a win.

So in actuality, stopping the run is helping them stop the pass. Do I need to go into more detail about this??? Oh wait, since I can't put some statistical numbers behind this COMMON THINKING of the PROFESSIONALS it must be wrong.

God, you guys need to shut up and play Madden. HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit,

Stopping another team's running game should be considerably less of a priority than stopping another team's passing game.

Well, we've all said our piece about the pass vs run and it's just going to go around in circles. So I wanted to talk about McNabb.

Once again, why the McNabb hate? I brought up a fact. He has a better playoff record than Peyton Manning and I think it's about the same percentage as Brett Favre (but less games).

How much gas does McNabb have in the tank? We'll find out this year. I already said he's only playing 10 games this season. He's injury prone.

Biggest knock on Manning.. can't win the big one.

Favre.. we all know the meltdowns he has had with the chips down.

To me.. McNabb is in that neighborhood.. a good QB that struggles with pressure upon his head.

One more note.. last time I checked no QB has ever won or lost on their own.. not sure how relevant that stat really is.

The McNabb hate comment wasn't directed at anyone in general. He just seems to be one of the more disliked QBs in the NFL. That's what I don't get.

I think what Pack93z said about him is where I'm at. I think his biggest problem is he tries to win it all himself and by doing that, you often shoot yourself in the foot. See Brett Favre.

I do think McNabb will be nominated for the Hall. Note I said nominated. I don't think he'll get in though. Kurt Warner will be on the other side as the QB who barely got in while McNabb didn't.

No, I will NOT see Brett Favre. I've had enough, thank you much.

I like Donovan McNabb in an interview, I think he's witty and fun.

By the numbers.. McNabb does compare well to Favre and Manning that are batting around .500 in the playoffs and for all their awards and accolades have only won 2 Superbowls between them. Although he has the lowest overall numbers of the three in a collective sense, and in wins and losses.
