Once again, read the article I posted. You'll see that most even big name musicians are broke.

By the way, I thought you've already learned from the recession that those driving around in nice cars with neat-o material objects aren't necessarily rich. (In fact, more often than not, far from it).

lol true, after they got on MTV Cribs, VH1 Behind the Scenes schedules them for an interview in 18 months to discuss how they lost their riches.

The point I was going after was they make the money, I'm not saying they know how to spend it wisely. They make more than programmers.

I seen a statistic that claimed more than 50% of all lottery winners claim bankruptcy within five years of winning.

I just read another article about Netflix hired on a bunch of rep's and warned them about a massive flood of angry emotional subscribers... this is common, Dish Network did this to us when they changed their programming plan names from something like America's Top 100, to Top 120 ... etc ... this confused and surprisingly pissed off a LOT of customers. "what are my extra 20 channels and hope you know i aint paying shit extra!!" ... I dealt with quite a few calls from pissed off customers with that. I was the one who took the escalated calls, meaning, if a customer was irate, it would get passed on to me.

Anyhow, my question is ... what are the other legal options of streaming movies? Prices? Library quality? If I were to leave Netflix, where should I go?

Like I said, less than 100 musicians in the whole country make more money than your AVERAGE software engineer working in California. And I'm probably being generous.

(NOTE - I'm talking about musicians who play THEIR OWN music in THEIR OWN bands only). Radiohead doesn't count because they're not American musicians. I'll even spot you 4 - the 4 guys in Metallica. See if you can come up with 96 more.

My point is there is money, as much as Love wants to counter, but I just think a lot of them squander that money they do make instead of reinvesting it or throwing it around an making it rain.

That said.. another source looking at average salary.. fits more in line with your stance.. heck MickeyD's worker makes more than some. 😉

What some of this doesn't take into account as well is endorsements and money gained to the artist (once known).

They do NOT make more than programmers. Getting a million dollar contract = getting a million dollar loan. If you got a million dollar loan for your house, it's still a loan. It's NOT making a million dollars.

You have to pay it back. The vast majority of bands are lucky to break even. The ones who make even six figures are a very small minority, and they don't do it consistently. One bad selling album and your career is almost always done.

Then guess what? You gotta pay it all back.

Even Tool and Enimen, I can almost guarantee you that 20 years from now, my net worth will dwarf their COMBINED net worth. And I'm a slacker.

Pack - Good stuff. Good to see there are a few that actually have a decent net worth.

Now, like I said, take out the ones who aren't American. Also, look how many in that bunch signed pre-1990 contracts. The vast majority of them signed pre-1990 contracts.

I wanna believe you, but you're not being logical at all and you're completely ignoring outside revenue such as endorsements.

It's easy to pound your chest and say I'll have a higher net income than so and so in X years when you're a private person that will never disclose information that would support your boasts.

Tool Kevin Maynard couldn't find it

KoRn singer Jonathan Davis $45 million
http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-celebrities/rock-stars/jonathan-davis-net-worth/

Evanescence singer Amy Lee $12 million

Eminem $115 million
http://www.celebritynetworth.com/richest-celebrities/rappers/eminem-net-worth/

I suppose that site is unreliable.

WAIT!! You threw ANOTHER wrench into this, are they AMERICAN??!?!?!?

I won't be completely obtuse to your point, I'm sure the AVERAGE musician makes less than the AVERAGE programmer ... which is just common sense if you ask me and is as obvious as the sky is blue.

In high school, I don't recall any group saying "HEY we should get together to code" in their basement, but I do remember and still see a lot forming bands faster than they can fill out a job application.
