Which frankly seems like a dumb idea to me. Why would you rank players for a season that hasn't happened yet? It makes so much more sense to rank the players from the previous season, since you actually have data for that season. Anything could happen going into this season: history shows that a certain number of players on that Top 100 list won't be on the field opening weekend.

That sounds like a reasonable way to rank players. Unfortunately, they made a mess of it. They might've gotten away with it in the pre-Internet age, but nowadays there are thousands of people like us on message boards who put way more thought into this sort of stuff than the players themselves do. The best thing that can happen to this list is for it to promptly sink without a trace, and that's probably what will happen to it.
